Description
Hi all! My name is Ryan. I try my best to laugh everyday and to look for reasons to be delighted by life going on around me. I usually succeed.
I try to be generous-- I like to give away my books and jokes.
I grew up in Kentucky where I learned to love spending time in my home state's abundant forests, rivers and lakes. To this day, I find that I feel at ease in and around water and around animals. In college, a few chance encounters with wonderful travelers and teachers changed my life course forever. I fell in love with the country and culture of France, majored in French, and despite no idea what I was getting into or how much my life would be changed, I set off from Kentucky to live there.
I spent three years living between France and Senegal, where I worked as an English teacher. I also taught English to newly arrived immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in my hometown back in Kentucky. I have worked in non-profit immigration law offices, restaurants, bars, on farms, rooftops, in a library, on an Eco-Lodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon, on a SCUBA boat on the Great Barrier Reef, and in construction.
Now days, I enjoy traveling, reading, learning new languages, and connecting with people and new places. I love to read, to dance, to write, to laugh, tell stories and jokes, and to play music. I also enjoy cooking, swimming, hiking, and gardening, yoga, practicing meditation, and learning about languages, spirituality, art, history, and culture.
I would like to learn Russian and Portuguese when time permits. I speak great French and pretty good Spanish. I am always willing to engage in language exchanges, and am happy to share what I know!
I find great value in slowing things down so as to better appreciate where we are, what we are doing, and who we are with.Interests

I love to teach. I have 4+ years of English teaching experience from ages 7 and older. I would love to help enthusiastic learners to appreciate and master my mother language. I am still polishing my Spanish and would love to practice Spanish. I have spoken French for 10+ years and hold a bachelors of art in the French. I would also be interested in teaching French.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

I have experience farming, bar tending, catering for weddings and large events. I also spent three years as a teacher of English. I love to cook. I have also spent time waiting tables. I enjoy working with my hands and can do many automotive repairs and some household repairs. I spent a summer replacing roofs in Kentucky (hot out!). My most recent volunteer experience was a grounds keeper, interpreter, and cook for an eco-lodge in the Amazon.
As an undergraduate, I studied French, and then learned Spanish later in life. I love nerding out on language learning and would love to teach you languages.Age
