Description
Come and stay at a warm HOME that's by the city (30 min bicycle to the old square central moat) in the ancient ruins of Wiang Kum Kam...and sometimes beautiful farm / forest outside Chiang Mai city.
WORK
This is NOT a business, it's a private HOME. *People with 'HANDY' skills are treated well! ORGANIZING is usually needed; moving materials, loading the car, planting seeds. I've always got lots of projects happening, mostly CARPENTRY (cutting and sanding), cleaning and GARDENING. Some people have PLAYED MUSIC while others have built walls, it really depends on the moment. Additionally, if you can ALSO do some VIDEO EDITING would be nice. We have chickens and pheasants that need FEEDING, I love doing it just before going to work^^
WHO (we are)
My wife and I are FULL-TIME teachers, Monday - Friday 8:00-16:00 My Thai wife teaches and is tremendously busy, considerate and helpful and can speak English excellently. I am a Canadian man who has lived in Asia for more than 20 years. I am easy to drink and happy driving around the countryside. I also work and look for people who have independence and flexibility.
WHO (guests that enjoyed being here)
So far we've hosted nearly a 100 guests. People who LIKE to do small projects and wish to LEND A HAND. Having 'COMMON SENSE' is important. READY to have a morning tea and jump into the back of the truck and VENTURE to a local market or VISIT a neighbour. ENJOY a simple task. We have enjoyed German, Korean, Mexican, French, Argentinian, New Zealand and more. You also need to be able to fill your FREE TIME and have ideas or PLANS for your own travel. It helps us work together with our erratic schedules. People who are willing to take a slow morning or enjoy a coffee while things get organized. We are happy to have people with any level of communication, c'est tres jolie, 很有趣, es ist gut
We welcome workawayers 28 and OLDER. I probably will not answer if I am busy and you are under 28. I really like COUPLES or groups of friends. I will not answer if your profile is NOT English, I do not have time to translate whatever language.
FOOD
We enjoy sharing meals with our guests and treat them when we can. Almost always, you need to find your own breakfast & lunch. We do not eat breakfast and for lunch we are usually busy. On the weekends, sometimes I will treat you for lunch if I'm with you at meal times. Normally dinner time we will eat together or treat you, but it is not dependable. Everyone has left here having tried lots of different foods! *Basic agreement: We are happy to ask for 15 hours help a week (3 hours, 5 days) with food as your responsibility.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I am happy to show you some basic carpentry and other skills and let you practice. We have bicycles you can borrow (*conditions) and sometimes motorbikes you can borrow/rent.
We have always taken WAers hiking and to a few destinations outside the city for fun. We often go to lakes and have dinners. When luck, timing, and the match is perfect, I take you to a few of the really local bars, have you try some Thai drinks and play bocce ball / boules with the locals.
Obviously the history of Chiang Mai is evident in the ruins and I have enough knowledge about it that I could share as well as general knowledge of Thailand, Thai culture and East Asia.
My wife is a delightful Thai person and WAers have a great time when we take them to special dinners. She's very busy but she'll teach you little bits here and there, cooking, plants, culture and more.Help
When I understand what you are capable of doing, I can usually think of an interesting project for you to help with.
For people with construction skills, I have a lot of ideas for renovation and beautification. I am slowly setting up a proper work shop.
For highly skilled artists, some paintings and sculptures that need to be made. (don't expect to do this, everyone thinks they can, but can they!?!)
At the farm, ongoing watering / weeding / planting is needed.Languages

Behind the house is a small detached safe room. It is semi-private and has it's own tiny bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower (no hot water yet), so you can come and do as you please.
The 3 x 4m guesthouse (not including the bathroom) is slowly being decorated and furnished. We have a bunk bed (2 single beds) and a small table and fan (no air-con). We can sometimes include a bar fridge to keep cold water (we often give you fresh coconut water from the parents' house). You can use our washing machine. If we are comfortable, we let people share our hotplate. Often, people will cook and eat together with us.
Normally, we do not ask people to wake up or get ready until ~8.30-9. But just just be aware, guests should be prepared to sometimes be ready to adventure and leave the house 7:30-16:00. I will always tell you the night before. What else ...
At the house in the city, I have a couple bicycles to borrow for free if you are responsible. We have motorcycles for rent, sometimes, you can ask.
The farm is right near a fantastic reservoir dam...stunning sunsets!
For vegetarians, we have 2 great restaurants nearby; Happy Green is 5 mins by scooter/30 mins walking, a bit closer is a no-name shop (Guan Im) and in many people's opinion is one of the best value in the whole city.
There are tons of old ruins of ancient temples within 5 minutes of the house, while nowhere near as impressive as Sukhothai or Ayutthaya, they are still romantic. The main road nearby is the Chiang Mai-Lamphun road which is lined by towering 100 year old rubber trees (google: Dipterocarpus alatus) and is a great day trip to Lamphun. It's very easy to get to downtown Chiang Mai by red truck during the day, about 15 mins, or 10mins by scooter to the very centre of the city.
The location is very convenient for leaving Chiang Mai as well by all means, airport, bus station and train station are almost straight down one road or another.
On motorbike, it's very easy to go to the southern end of Suthep mountain (the main mountain in Chiang Mai city) and go on the famous Sameong loopA little more information

We spent 3 weeks with Ora and Daniel and enjoyed our stay so much. They are very caring people, friendly and welcoming. They live in a beautiful typical Thai neighborhood not far from the city center.
