  • Description

    Hello! :)

My name is Nico, I’m a recent computer science master's graduate looking to transition into environmental work professionally. For 2025, my companion Milo and I have the opportunity to seek adventure, develop new skills, and meet new people while engaging in the meaningful work, Earth-connection, and personal growth that we both crave.

I'm good with computers, but I'm not afraid to disconnect from the grid and to get my hands dirty -- I have spent my summers volunteering in remote locations sampling wetlands, feeding baby birds, and counting bugs.

In my professional and academic work, I have focused on technology for good: 3D printing assistive technology for disability and aging, digital art for art-risk youth, a virtual gallery for AR artwork and indigenous cultural artefacts. If relevant, I want to share the technological skills I have gained, but most importantly I want to transfer my skills out of the tech world and into environmental work.

I want to balance this tech work with practical hands-on work that I have always craved doing. I am connecting back to my environmentalist roots and want to live in closer harmony with the Earth.

I want to do this by:
    - spending as much time outdoors as possible
    - contributing to a project bigger than myself
    - getting involved with community: to learn from, share with, and be inspired by people
    - radically reducing my environmental impact and learning the skills to live more sustainability, including food production, animal care, and off-grid energy systems
    - connecting with a land: to learn the names of its plants, the issues it faces, and ways it can be protected and aided

Within the years to come, I ultimately want to:
    - develop a low-impact, self-sufficient lifestyle
    - contribute to community; offer mutual support in changing times
    - involve myself in rewilding, remediation, and restoration work
    - deepen my spiritual connection and artistic practice
    - disconnect from the technology dependence my world has encouraged
    - reconnect with my body, building my strength and resilience
    - live in accordance with my values
