  • Description

Hello! My name is Nico :)

2026 will be my second summer doing workaway. I am so excited to continue building my skills and resilience, to forge more bonds with people and communities, and to keep contributing to projects greater than myself.

I'm good with computers, but thrive when I disconnect from screens and get my hands dirty -- I have spent my summers volunteering in remote locations sampling wetlands, feeding baby birds, and counting bugs.

I'm a recent graduate of a geomatics program, where I have learned to use GIS, remote sensing, map making, and programming for environmental conservation.

After doing two workaways last summer and spending a year living in an urban intentional community, I seek to dive deeper into exploring alternative, self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyles. My workaway experience to date has been eye-opening in showing me the many ways we can choose to live this life, and I hope to continue to be awe-struck and inspired by every new connection.

I am here to learn and to grow. I am an enthusiastic student, ready to help where needed and grateful for those who wish to share their knowledge with me. I crave opportunities to develop new skills and expand my capabilities.

With a willing teacher, I am particularly interested in the opportunity to develop building skills (especially natural building methods), off-grid energy management, environmental restoration, and food preservation.

I'm passionate about accessibility and aging-in-place, and am grateful for the connections I make with those older than me. I would love to be involved in building and maintaining homes, spaces, and systems that foster autonomy and self-sufficiency through all stages of life -- including disability, age, and death.
