  • Description

Hello, my name is Thea and I’m 21 years old from Bath in the UK. Having graduating with my bachelor degree in July, I have since taken time out to save up and travel back and around my birth country, New Zealand, for 5 months.

Happiness for me comes from the small simple moments you can make happen within each and everyday. An early morning stroll along the river in summer, cooking and enjoying dinner with my family, sharing a smile, going to the gym, a solo cafe trip, an evening with friends, a spontaneous conversation with a stranger on the train. These moments often include being around loved ones who make me feel energised but I find myself equally as happy in my own company hence I love to solo travel, meet new people and experience new places and ways of living that are different to my own back home.

My motivation comes from wanting to always be the best version of myself and live life to the fullest in whatever way that may be during the phase of life I am currently in. My passion for helping, learning from and getting to know others motivates me to step out of my comfort zone, go with the flow and try new things.

  • More details about your skills

Having graduated with a BSc Hons degree in Chemistry last year, I have gained a variety of transferable skills that I have been able to implement into daily life. I spent a considerable amount of time in the lab, where being technical, practical and safe were crucial for a successful experiment. Throughout the 3 years, logical thinking, problem solving and paying close attention to detail are skills I developed further as well as working well in a team, staying organised and having good time management.

My experience working in fast paced customer service roles in two major UK supermarkets (Marks & Spencer and Morrisons) as well as being a front of house team member with the restaurant chain, Wagamamas, has enhanced my communication and people skills immensely. Having patience, displaying empathy and being an active listener have all allowed me to quickly solve problems to ensure the best experience for the customer.

I love teaching and helping others in any way I can. For example, I volunteer at my local charity shop back home and enjoy being a friendly face on the shop floor. My creativity skills were enhanced when I made cards to sell at school with some friends to raise money for a charity in Malawi. This also involved doing bake sales and jumble sales which required important organisation and team working skills.

I am a regular gym user and love anything involving health and fitness. Tennis and swimming are two of my favourite sports to play for fun and I love helping others at these sports too. For example, at summer camps I would help the younger children learn some basic tennis.

Cooking and baking are also skills I really enjoy doing - finding fun with healthy recipes for people to enjoy! I regularly do the food shop and cook for my family back home; I love looking into different foods and their health benefits for the body so we can feel our best self.

Being outdoors is where I find great joy. I like to help my parents in the garden, mowing the lawn, weeding, general tidying and apple picking. I wash the cars and am very competent at getting on with odd jobs around the house: cleaning, washing etc.

During my last few years at school, I was given the responsibility of having prefect roles. One involved looking after the youngest student boarders after school hours and in supporting them with their homework, play games with them and just be there for them as an ‘older sibling’ type relationship whilst they were getting used to their new environment. I then moved on to do evening duties with slightly older student boarders where I would be responsible for them all being in their rooms on time before bed and keeping the boarding house tidy.

  • What else ...

Although I don’t have any pets of my own, I love the idea of being around a family dog and taking them for walks throughout the day.

Coldplay are my favourite artist and I love listening to music overall.

I consider myself to be genuinely kind, caring, patient and responsible and would find being around or looking after kids in some way an absolute joy.

    I love a spontaneous adventure.
