Description
Hello!
We are Shambe and Sophie,
We are best friends backpacking through Mexico for a few weeks and are very keen to engage in more grounded and authentic experience of this beautiful country. We are artists and energy workers seeking to connect with others that hold a deep deep reverence and connection to nature and its diverse indigenous communities. We love to learn new skills and are happy to be put to work caring for the land, animals, cook meals or helping to build and maintain farms, homesteads or community dwellings. We both have experience with slower travelling styles, such as living in community and working with the land. We aren't the strongest spanish speakers but are very excited to improve and contribute to a wider cultural exchange during our time with you. -

More details about your skills
At home in Sydney, Sophie runs her own practice as a bodyworker, and has just completed studies in Art Therapy. As an artist her favourite mediums are painting, drawing, performance art, creative writing and playing the flute. She has travelled extensively and has experience in Workaways in Romania and Turkiye. As a Workawayer, she has house and cat sat, cared for a vineyard and garden and worked in the kitchen of a guesthouse. She has an eagerness to learn, especially for anything permaculture, building or animal related.
Based in Belgrave, Victoria Shambe is a student of life. In her free time, she attends weekly thai chi classes, volunteers at two community radio stations as a broadcaster, photographer and receptionist, and volunteers as a visitor services officer at the Heide Museum of Modern Art. Having completed studies in Journalism, Arts and cultural adminidtration, traditinal wood carving and basket weaving and reiki healing, her interests and skillset is vast and ever evolving. Coming from a nomadic and culturally diverse lineage, spanning across Canada, Australia, Africa and Chile - travel is a lifelong friend. She is familiar with eco-constrcution, having helped her family build mud houses and fences out of recycled materials and self-harvested eucalyptus wood in the Chilean countryside. She has plenty of experience with communal living arrangements, in commune environments and also as a veteran sharehouser in Melbourne and is eager to contribute in any way she is able. She deeply values healthy interdependence and as a person with a mild form of cerebal palsy, can offer an intimate understanding of neurodivergence and disability support. -

We like living close to nature, despite being from the city we are always drawn to the grounding qualities of the earth. We are both deeply spiritual individuals. who love to learn and be immersed in different cultures ways of being. We are skilled in many artistic modalities and wish to be in a community that holds these same values.
