  • Description

Hello! My name is Takefumi, and I am from Japan.
I am currently taking a one-year break from my work as a high school geography teacher to travel around the world. My dream is to experience different cultures, lifestyles, and landscapes firsthand, and use those experiences to create my own geography textbook based on real life rather than only classroom knowledge.
For many years, I have taught students about countries, people, and cultures from around the world. Now, I want to step outside the classroom and learn directly from local communities. I believe the best way to understand a place is through the people who live there.
During my journey, I hope to meet people from different backgrounds, share stories, learn about everyday life, and build meaningful connections. I enjoy cultural exchange and am always curious to discover new perspectives.
I am easygoing, responsible, and open-minded. I enjoy helping others, learning new skills, and adapting to different environments. Whether it is helping with daily tasks, spending time with families, working outdoors, or simply sharing conversations, I am happy to contribute and learn.
I also have experience working with young people and occasionally enjoy introducing Japanese culture, geography, kendama, or shogi when opportunities arise.
For me, travel is not just about visiting famous places. It is about understanding how people live, what they value, and what we can learn from one another.
I look forward to meeting you and becoming part of your community, even if only for a short time.

More details about my language interests
I enjoy learning languages because they help me connect with people and better understand different cultures. During my travels, I always try to learn basic words and expressions from the local language. As part of my journey around the world, I recently spent one month studying English in the Philippines. It was a wonderful experience that helped me improve my communication skills and build friendships with people from different backgrounds. I am a native Japanese speaker and would be happy to help others learn Japanese while continuing to improve my English through conversation and cultural exchange. For me, language learning is not only about words and grammar—it is about understanding people and their way of life.

    42

  • What else ...

One of the reasons I started this journey is that I wanted to challenge myself again at the age of 42. After teaching geography for more than 20 years, I realized that there is still so much to learn from the world and from the people I meet along the way.
I enjoy exploring local markets, trying traditional food, visiting schools, and learning about everyday life in different communities. I am often more interested in how people live than in famous tourist attractions.
I also write a travel blog and share my experiences on social media. My goal is not only to travel, but to bring these experiences back to my students and help them see the world from a broader perspective.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, photography, kendama, shogi (Japanese chess), and meaningful conversations with people from different backgrounds.
I believe that every person has a story worth hearing, and that cultural exchange begins with simple human connections. I hope to meet wonderful people and create lasting memories during this journey.
