  • Description

Hello! My name is Mikey and I’ve lived in Boulder Colorado for the past 15 years. I grew up in Seattle and have also lived in California, New York and Texas.

For the past 5 years I’ve been a professional house and pet sitter. I’ve had many clients who trust me with their home and pets so much that they schedule their vacations around my availability. I’m super clean, quiet and respectful.

I’ve had many jobs including construction, landscaping, cooking and bartending. I’m a fast learner and very dependable. I play guitar and a few other instruments, like to read and watch movies. I enjoy short hikes and long naps. I also enjoy photography, football, and exploring new places.

I’m hoping to spend some time in Southern California, particularly the San Diego area to see if I’m interested in living there full time. After 15 Colorado winters I am definitely interested in the idea of 70 degrees all the time 😎

  • More details about your skills

House and pet sitting has taught me so much about being a guest in people’s homes and lives. The most important qualities of a guest are trust and communication.

During my 5 years of house sitting I was able to meet and book dozens of clients who became regulars and many who now feel like family. I was consistently booked for 6-12 months in advance. The satisfaction I felt from knowing that my clients could go spend time relaxing with their families while knowing that their pets and homes were in good hands was immeasurable. I like to do nice things while my clients are away such as clean out the fridge or mow the lawn. I enjoy taking photos of their pets and usually leave photo prints on the counter with a hand written thank you note including anything that came up while they were away.

I always leave the kitchen spotless, take out all trash, compost and recycling, vacuum, wash all bedding and towels and leave them nicely folded on the bed.

I am always on time and have never cancelled a sit in 5 years. Other responsibilities included mail & package collection, cleaning litter boxes, keeping the yard free of pet waste, adding hot tub chemicals, filling bird feeders, watering indoor plants and gardens, feeding fish and some small tasks like landscaping projects or handyman work.

My father was in construction and woodworking so I know my way around basic tool safety. I’m familiar with hammers, drills and small saws. I assisted him in many projects including painting, remodeling, drywall, framing, roofing, cabinetry and pouring concrete.

I worked as a groundsman with an arborist and am familiar with chainsaw work, chippers, blowers, pole saws, pruning, lawnmowers and trimming and weeding.

I spent almost 20 years in the service industry and have done almost everything possible. I have been a dishwasher, prep cook, line cook, busser, host, server, bartender and manager.

I have worked on the production line at a craft brewery. I learned bottling, canning and kegging so I know how to troubleshoot machinery and work as part of a team. I also learned a bit about the brewing process.

  • What else ...

I occasionally use tobacco but never indoors and make sure to be respectful of others. I would never smoke near the house, children, people eating food or nonsmokers in general. I also do not litter and am extremely careful about fire safety.
