  • Description

    Hey dear future host, how nice that you’re checking out our profile! :)

    We’re Max (27) & Laura (25), a Dutch-German couple enthusiastic for a new adventure. If you’ve made it here, that probably means that we would like to come stay with you!

    Here’s a little bit about us and how we’d like to contribute to your place:

    We’ve both recently completed our education; Laura just graduated from her Master's degree in Political Science, and Max from his PhD in Computer Science / Wildlife Ecology (yes, that's a weird combination, he can tell you all about it). After four years together the timing is just right to hit the road!

    Laura grew up between New Zealand and Germany and moved to the Netherlands at 19 for her studies, which made her adaptable and comfortable in new environments from an early age. Along the way, she picked up a wide range of hands-on experience through different jobs, including working as a receptionist, bartender, waitress, in hotel room service, customer support, and as a nanny. She enjoys working with people and tends to quickly find her place wherever she goes. She’s also a passionate cook and enjoys creating a welcoming atmosphere, whether that’s through food, hosting, or helping out around the house. She has several years of experience working with horses and is very comfortable with animal care in general. Laura is happy to get involved wherever needed, from practical tasks to more creative ones like decorating or painting murals. More broadly, she’s interested in sustainable ways of living, growing food, and thinking about how we relate to the world around us in a more conscious way.

    Max grew up in the Netherlands and stayed there to finish his entire studies (from Bachelor's, to Master's, to PhD) within 9 years, showing he's diligent, deeply motivated, and perseverant. He enjoys being the person who keeps things organised and running smoothly, especially in busy environments. Despite his analytical mindset, he’s also a social butterfly who brings an easygoing, positive energy to any workplace. During his doctoral studies Max also founded a social PhD association, which quickly grew to more than 250 members. This experience not only honed his organisational skills, but also gave him lots of experience making social activities enjoyable for big (international) groups. Outside of work, he’s big on staying active and healthy, meaning he's well suited to perform more physical labour. He’s always keen to get stuck in and learn new skills, so whether you need him to do odd jobs around the house, be your numbers guy managing spreadsheets, or just need him to be someone people enjoy having around, he's always happy to contribute however he can.

    We’re a great team and complement each other really well. Laura's unbridled creativity and enthusiasm is a joy to be around, and Max' calmth brings structure to the chaos. We have lots of experience traveling together, so we find our rhythm together in new places very quickly. Our travels are generally very varied, from sleeping in tents on campsites to staying in family-vibe hostels, where we love acting as the social catalyst of any group.

    Other than that, we love:

    * Really contributing to a place instead of just passing through or „vacationing“ there
    * Honest and clear communication to and from our hosts - help us be good helpers! :)
    * Learning about your language, country, culture and history
    * Teaching and learning new skills
    * Creating a home away from home

    But we don‘t love:

    * Unclear expectations
    * Being a „sticky“ and closed off couple - we love engaging with other people around us!
    * bigotry, racism, sexism, or any other form of discrimination

    If this sounds like a match, we would love to hear from you!
