Hi! We are JP and Katrina, a newly married couple from Ontario, Canada, starting an exciting new chapter together.

We have always loved exploring new places, learning about different cultures, meeting new people, and trying new things. For us, the best parts of travelling aren’t just seeing famous landmarks, but experiencing everyday life somewhere new — sharing meals, learning local traditions, having conversations with locals, and becoming part of a community, even if only for a short time.

We are both easy-going, positive and curious people, and we would describe ourselves as adventurous and outdoorsy. We love spending time in nature, hiking, exploring beaches and mountains, discovering new places, taking photos, cooking, and trying different foods. We also enjoy slower evenings, good conversations, movies, games and simply spending time together.

Katrina is a warm, caring and social person who loves connecting with people and making others feel comfortable. She enjoys cooking, exploring new places, spending time outdoors, and learning about different cultures. She is naturally organized, dependable and always happy to help wherever she is needed. She also loves animals and would be excited to learn more about gardening, plants, and other new skills through Workaway.

JP is naturally curious, hands-on and always interested in figuring out how things work. He has experience with home renovations, construction and building and maintaining swimming pools, and enjoys practical projects and learning new skills. He also loves cooking, technology, photography, driving, fishing and being outdoors.

We are beginning our Working Holiday adventure in Australia with the hope of experiencing it beyond the typical tourist path. We are particularly excited about Australia’s beaches, nature and relaxed lifestyle, and we’re hoping to spend some time around Byron Bay when we first arrive.

Beyond Australia, our travels will take us through New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, Bali, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan and China. We chose these destinations because we want to experience a huge variety of cultures, food, landscapes and ways of life. We’re particularly excited to try local food, learn a few words of the local languages, and experience each place rather than simply passing through the major tourist attractions.

We are joining Workaway because we want to slow down and experience places as more than tourists. We love the idea of contributing our time and energy, learning from our hosts, developing new skills and becoming part of a local community. We are happy helping with practical projects, maintenance, cooking, gardening, animals, hospitality or everyday tasks.

Although we are new to Workaway, we are not new to working hard, helping others or taking responsibility. We are respectful of other people’s homes, enjoy keeping things clean and organized, and are always willing to learn.

We are really looking forward to meeting people from different backgrounds, sharing our Canadian culture, learning from our hosts and hopefully becoming part of some amazing stories along the way. 🇨🇦❤️

Our Skills & Experience
JP:
I’ve gained hands-on experience working on home renovations, construction projects, and building and maintaining swimming pools. I enjoy practical work and take pride in seeing a project come together from start to finish. I’m comfortable getting my hands dirty and helping with general maintenance, renovations, painting, outdoor projects and other practical tasks. I’m always happy to learn new skills and follow the guidance of someone with more experience.

I also have a background in real estate, which has helped me develop strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills. I’m comfortable taking responsibility, working with people and adapting to different situations.

Outside of work, I’m a good cook and genuinely enjoy preparing meals and trying new foods. I’m a confident and experienced driver and can drive both manual and automatic vehicles. I also have strong technology skills and am comfortable helping with computers, phones, troubleshooting and other everyday tech-related tasks.

Katrina:
I have a degree in Psychology and currently work as an Educational Assistant, supporting children with a variety of needs in a school environment, including children with autism and other challenges. This experience has helped me become very patient, compassionate, responsible and adaptable, and I’m comfortable working with people of different personalities and needs.

I also have four years of customer service experience from working at a furniture store, where I developed strong communication and people skills. I really enjoy meeting and helping people and am comfortable working as part of a team.

Outside of work, baking is one of my favourite things to do, and I also love cooking and trying new recipes. I’m creative and enjoy activities where I can make or build something. I also love animals, gardening and spending time outdoors, and would be excited to learn more about these areas through Workaway.

Together:
As a couple, we’re hardworking, reliable, social and easy-going, and we’re happy to get involved wherever we’re needed. Between us, we’re comfortable helping with practical projects, maintenance, cooking, baking, gardening, animals, hospitality, children and everyday household tasks. We’re both curious and enjoy learning new skills, so we’re always happy to try something we’ve never done before.

What else ...

Outside of work and travelling, we both enjoy staying active, spending time outdoors, discovering new places and trying different foods. We love exploring nature, beaches and mountains, and we’re always up for an adventure. We also enjoy slower evenings together, good food, movies, conversations and relaxing after a busy day.

I’m especially into photography, technology, cooking and fishing. I’m an avid fisherman and could happily spend a free day by the water whenever the opportunity comes up. I also enjoy anything that gets me outdoors and exploring, and I’m usually the person friends and family come to when they need help figuring out a piece of technology!

Katrina is very creative and absolutely loves baking and cooking, especially trying new recipes and making things for other people to enjoy. She also loves animals, gardening and spending time outdoors. She’s naturally social and enjoys getting to know new people, and she’s always excited to try something creative or learn a new skill.

As a couple, we love trying local food, exploring new places, meeting people from different backgrounds and learning about different cultures. We’re both easy-going and social, but we also appreciate a relaxed atmosphere and quiet evenings. We’re excited to share stories, learn from our hosts and hopefully introduce them to a little bit of Canadian culture along the way. 🇨🇦

We’re especially excited about experiencing places as more than tourists — getting to know the people, the local way of life and the little things that you wouldn’t discover by simply staying in hotels.
