    Description

We are a retired couple living in a big log home in between Whistler and Squamish in the Sea to Sky valley. We are a half hour drive from Whistler in a little residential community with a small lake and lots of access to hiking trails and forest. Our home is surrounded by gardens, growing both vegetables and flowers and herbs. Richard has a little woodworking shop where he is always busy with various projects, and Christy bakes bread for the farmers market. We are both passionate about food, working most of our lives in the restaurant industry, and we love cooking and hosting. We have lived in this home and community for over 40 years, so we know all the secret trails, and are happy to share our favourite local spots. In the fall, we love to go mushroom picking nearby.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are excited to host people from around the world and share our beautiful community with them. We have travelled quite a lot over the years and we love meeting people from different countries. We love sharing mountain culture, from showing travelers our favourite cross country ski trails to taking folks out for a canoe ride on the lake after dinner. We love sharing fresh food and cooking nice meals, and Christy is usually happy to share garden knowledge (she has been gardening for at least 4 decades).

  • Help

    Help

We are interested in hosting folks who are interested in helping in the gardens, stocking the woodshed, and general upkeep and tasks around the home. We are also working on fixing up some parts of our home, so it would be great if we could find someone interested in learning and helping with some basic woodworking. Most of these tasks we will be working alongside you, and we hope to share some of our knowledge and experience with whoever comes to stay.

    Accommodation

Travelers will stay in one of our large upstairs bedrooms, with access to the whole house and property. We will provide home cooked meals for dinner, and breakfasts and lunches will be the responsibility of the traveler (though there are often leftovers and such)

We will provide food for 3 meals. We sit down for a hearty breakfast and always a hot dinner. We don’t really eat lunch maybe leftovers or fruit around 3 pm. We have always worked in kitchens and I still bake bread to sell at the Squamish farmers market. So yes there will always be plenty of homemade food available
