Hello!

My name is Jackson. I am 41 years old, originally from Brazil and living in Portugal for the last 10 years. I am a traveler who loves cultural exchange, adventure, and learning new things.

I have a very diverse and academic background. I hold three Master degrees, I am currently finishing my PhD in Digitalization Engineering, I work as a university professor, and I recently founded a tech leadership startup. However, please do not let the academic background fool you! I am definitely not a weak computer nerd. I am physically strong, I have a lot of energy, and I absolutely love doing manual labor and heavy physical work. I am an engineer at heart, which means I like to get my hands dirty and actually build things.

In my previous Workaway experiences, I have helped hosts with a huge variety of practical tasks. I have done gardening, painting, general cleaning, and I even helped construct a camper trailer. I also love animals and have experience caring for big dogs like Dobermanns. Of course, if you ever need technical help, I am your guy. I have built home automations, written code, and solved complex IT problems for my previous hosts to make their lives easier. I am proactive and I always try to go the extra mile to help around the house.

I am currently doing Workaway during my university holidays. My daily routine is very organized. I am fully dedicated to helping you during the expected hours of daily work. Outside of that time, I focus on exploring the local area, writing my academic articles, and working on my PhD thesis.

Beyond work, cooking is one of my biggest passions. I love to cook and share meals! I am a dedicated barbecue chef, and I have also cooked Brazilian beef stew and Paella for my previous hosts. It is my favorite way to share my culture and show appreciation.

Personally, I strongly value equality, human rights, and open mindedness. I love having deep philosophical conversations and I am extremely dedicated to improving my English, practicing it every single day.

As a multi-disciplinary professional, my skill set is quite broad and diverse. Here's a brief overview:

Computing and Technology: With a degree in Computer Engineering and a forthcoming Master's degree in Cybersecurity, I am proficient in various aspects of computing and technology. This includes coding, systems analysis, and cyber security protocols. I am also a scholarship researcher at the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo, where I apply these skills in academic and practical contexts.

Legal Skills: My Bachelor's degree in Law from Brazil has equipped me with a strong understanding of legal principles and systems. Though my focus has shifted towards computing, these skills can be beneficial in various contexts.

Multilingual Communication: Being a Portuguese-Brazilian, I am fluent in Portuguese. My English skills are at an intermediate level (B1), and I am actively working to improve them. I am comfortable reading and understanding English, and can express myself effectively, albeit with some difficulty.

Domestic and Outdoor Work: My Workaway experiences have given me practical skills in areas like pet care, house maintenance, and outdoor work. I've cared for 16 Dobermans at once and managed a household in the absence of the homeowners.

Cooking: I am an excellent cook, with a particular passion for Brazilian cuisine. I would be more than happy to share some traditional dishes with you, given the availability of necessary ingredients.

Problem-Solving: Above all, I consider myself a problem-solver. This skill transcends specific domains, making me a versatile and adaptable individual. I am always eager to learn new things and apply my problem-solving abilities in new contexts.

I believe that these skills, combined with my open-mindedness and dedication, will make me a valuable addition to any Workaway host.

Philosophy and Political Activism: I have a keen interest in philosophy and political activism, having read and studied works by influential thinkers like Spinoza, Jung, and Foucault. My political leanings align with the left, and I am a staunch advocate for human rights and equality. My activism isn't just theoretical - I've coordinated political campaigns and have a hands-on understanding of the political landscape.

Leadership and Management: My experience extends to leadership roles, where I've managed companies and led teams. This background has honed my organizational, strategic thinking, and people management skills.

My stay with Benoit in Mons was undoubtedly one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences I've ever had through Workaway. From the moment I arrived, he made me feel welcome and comfortable. On my arrival and departure, he made a point of picking me up and dropping me off at the train station.

On my first day, we went to the local market,… read more where Benoit gave me complete freedom to choose the food I liked. This not only made me feel valued but also gave me a sense of belonging.

He provided me with a fantastic workstation, a spacious desk, and two extra monitors, which made my work much easier, literally every digital nomad's dream.

During my stay, we had the opportunity to cook together, play board games, and even go cycling around the area. It was a great time to share experiences, discover that we have a lot in common and, of course, laugh a lot. Benoit also gave me a list of points of interest in Mons, which allowed me to explore the city on foot, as his house is very close to the center.

Working with Benoit was like when a friend asks you for a hand with something. Together, we formed an incredible team, and I had the honor of participating in fascinating projects, such as the automation of the smart home and the final construction phase of his camper, a dream of Benoit's that will become a reality next week. I was amazed by his ability to program firmware and develop his own printed circuit boards for managing the home automation. I hope I have contributed to my ideas of using Kafka in the project.

The accommodation provided by Benoit was first class. I had the privilege of having a room to myself, which was extremely comfortable and well-insulated. The bathroom was modern, and the shower was simply spectacular, I'd say even better than the one at the Ibis! lol

And, of course, I can't fail to mention the adorable Sensa, Benoit's dog. She's the cutest thing in the world (and dramatic! lol) and always amused us with her antics, especially when monitoring the neighbor's cat (that's definitely her priority life goal. hehe) !

Benoit, thank you for making my stay in Mons so special. You're an incredibly kind and thoughtful person, and I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of your trip with the camper. I hope we can meet again in the future. I recommend everyone to have the opportunity to stay with Benoit and live this unique experience in Mons!

Hi Workaway people!

Oh, where do I start? My stay with Robert and Angel was simply magical, so if you're looking for a unique, funny and emotionally rich experience in Arnhem, Robert is your guy! I spent a month and a half in his house and it was a rollercoaster of laughter, learning and unforgettable moments.

First, let's talk about his house.… read more Have you ever heard of a vacuum cleaner called Slaurf (I don't know how you spell it)? yes, the vacuum cleaner has a name! And the toilet seat? It looks like the control panel of a spaceship. I confess that at first I considered doing my business in the garden, but relax, you get the hang of it quickly (and without any space accidents)!

As for work, I dedicated myself to programming some automations, scrapys and the like to help him automate his home and his life. It was a highlight for me to be able to work with what I love doing and at the same time have a positive impact on his life by delivering value. :D

And as for Robert, he's not just a host, he's a tour guide, a comedian and the Scrum Master that every IT professional dreams of having. He took me to the city library, we drank in a bar, he introduced me to his family and friends, and he even let me ride his 3-wheeled scooter (but I confess it's a strange feeling, those two wheels at the back, it felt like I was going to fall off at every turn, lol). Oh, and he also lent me a bike to explore Arnhem. And believe me, cycling through Arnhem is an experience you don't want to miss. The whole city is designed for cycling.

Dutch cuisine may not be famous, but I loved the Frikandel. And the breakfast with chocolate sprinkles on bread? It sounds like something you'd find at a children's party, so beware, you might be in for a nasty surprise when you weigh yourself on the scales! lol And speaking of food, what about the farewell? Oh, my heart! A Chinese banquet that made me feel like royalty. Something memorable! Thank you for this beautiful gesture Angel!

Robert's patience deserves a prize. Even with my caveman English, he was always understanding and patient.

Between the laughs and the adventures, we also had deep, philosophical conversations. And one funny cultural exchange was that I learned that sneezing hard means you'll be a good father. I'm still trying to understand this logic, and don't ask me why, but I've been practicing my sneezing ever since! lol

All in all, my stay with Robert and Angel was magical. I learned, laughed, grew and, above all, made friends for life. I really left there a better person than when I arrived. Saying goodbye was hard, but I'm eternally grateful for having had the opportunity to get to know them. They really made me feel part of the family and helped me improve my English in ways I never imagined. If you have the chance to stay with them, grab it with both hands (and maybe a third, if you have a three-wheeled scooter lol).

Thank you so much, Robert and Angel, for a surreal experience I'll never forget. I hope to have another chance to be with you again!

It's been almost a fantastic two months with Dean, Triona and their wonderful dogs. The accommodation is great, a huge room with a private bathroom and a paradisiacal view.
There is a pub and a shop 500 meters from the house, where you can spend great afternoons drinking while admiring a view of the sea.
