  • Description

Hi, I'm Anna from Bulgaria, nice too meet you! I just graduated form the American College of Sofia and am to go into Aalto University in Finland, the Design & Media BA. If I had 3 tree things to describe myself with, they'd be adventure, a sense of humor, and creativity. I am passionate about creating—art, writing short stories, the creation of memories, I enjoy a dynamic environment, and am quite "useful" when stimulated.

I am passionate about diversifying my life and bringing purpose to it. Volunteering is a way to achieve exactly that. Meeting new people, exploring places, trying out new jobs, working for a better present—all these bring me so much joy. Even though I haven't been on this planet for that long (19 years), I like to find ways to apply the knowledge and skills I've acquired so far :)

A bit about my Bulgarian background: it made me apprerciate nature, good food, and diversity. Bulgaria has beautiful mountaines and a great sea coast at the Black Sea. I've always lived in the capital, Sofia, but I've hiked as well, so I know a bit of both lifestyles. Since I'll be starting my studies in Finland very soon, I want to go there and be immersed in the culture for a bit!

Since I easily get bored, I've tried out many different hobbies: Bulgarian folk dancing, ballet, rock climbing, creative writing, krav maga, running, skiing, and all kinds of arts and crafts—sewing, drawing on clothes and shoes, wool felting... The one that stuck with me the longest is the polymer clay jewelry making, I even have a very small business, selling earrings mainly. Always looking for new ones though.

Why am I passionate about volunteering? Well, last summer I volunteered at an eco-sustained village in Germany through Worldpackers. There were about 100 volunteers at the same time, from more than 40 nationalities. During the day I was working in various fields (gradening, baking, babysitting, serving in a cafe, cleaning), while in the evenings (growing into nights) I was singing with the volunteers, playing table tennis, cooking, gazing at the stars, taking nightwalks, enjoying life. During my stay there I remembered that I had a dream from months ago that resembled the volunteer experience a lot. When I had woken up after the dream I was extremely dissapointed that it wasnt reality—it had been so real, I was feeling accepted from everyone and having fun. Well, I got to live it in reality. It has been the most exhausting month of my life, as I was hardly getting any sleep, but it was the happiest I've felt. Now I'm in search of that feeling again.

More details about my language interests
I love languages and the way they are interconnected and connect people and places for that reason. I want to practice the ones I'm already learning. I've also started studying Finnish recently, and I'd love to be immersed in the Finnish culture, so that I pick it up quickly. My mother tongue is Bulgarian, but I'm fluent with English and could help out someone else who wants to learn it, as well as teach them Bulgarian which is spoken inly in Bulgaria, so it's quite unique.

  • What else ...

I really enjoy reading, especially fiction. Lately I've been trying to read non-fiction to educate myself, you know, and I'm slowly but steadily progressing in that direction.
I am a big fan of 60s-70s music (a bit of 40s, 50s, 80s as well). Some favourite bands of mine are The Beatles, The Doors, Supertramp.
I try to eat more clean foods so less sugar and proccessed stuff (fighting my sweets addiction).
