  • Description

Hi! I’m Amelia, a 24-year-old Australian currently completing a Master of Environment, specialising in Conservation and Restoration, at the University of Melbourne.

I’m friendly, responsible and hardworking, with a strong interest in animals, conservation, outdoor life and learning from different cultures. I have worked in environmental science, wildlife conservation, hospitality and field-based roles in Australia and southern Africa.

Horses have been a major part of my life for around 15 years. I previously worked as a horse safari guide in South Africa, where I helped lead horseback safaris and was involved in the daily care, health, exercise and training of horses in the African bush.

My other experience includes wildlife monitoring, animal behaviour and population research, habitat assessment, environmental conservation and land restoration. I have also helped with lodge and bush-camp operations, maintenance, guest support and hospitality. I am comfortable working with visitors, collaborating with a team and taking responsibility for practical day-to-day tasks.

I enjoy hiking, horse riding, wildlife, climbing, skiing, working outdoors and experiencing new places and ways of life.

  • More details about your skills

    - I have around 15 years of equestrian experience and am confident with horse care, handling, riding and stable management. I have worked with horses of different ages, breeds and temperaments, including young horses, thoroughbreds and experienced competition horses.

    - I worked as a field guide at Ant Africa Safaris in South Africa, where I supported and led horseback safaris in a free-ranging wildlife environment. I was responsible for the daily care, health, exercise and training of approximately 10 horses, as well as helping with lodge maintenance, conservation management and land restoration.

    - I am a qualified FGASA Nature Site Guide and Apprentice Trails Guide. I have experience leading game drives, supporting guided walks, interpreting local wildlife and vegetation, and maintaining guest safety in remote environments.

    - While working at Siyafunda Research Camp in South Africa, I managed a bush camp with more than 10 junior guides and volunteers. I supported wildlife research projects involving elephant populations, animal behaviour and health, and used GPS, GIS, camera traps and artificial intelligence technology to track and map wildlife movements.

    - I have practical experience in wildlife conservation and ecological research. This includes assisting with bat surveys and acoustic identification, collecting and analysing cetacean data in Tenerife, and developing an orangutan-identification database for the Borneo Nature Foundation.

    - I have hospitality and guest-facing experience through safari lodges and bush camps. I am comfortable welcoming guests, supporting meals and accommodation, maintaining shared spaces, helping with practical lodge operations and communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds.

    - I am currently completing a Master of Environment, specialising in Conservation and Restoration, at the University of Melbourne and I am also working as an Environmental Science Intern at AECOM, supporting transport and renewable-energy infrastructure projects.

    - I speak fluent English and intermediate French, and I am currently learning Spanish. I am keen to improve my Spanish while travelling.

    - I am organised, responsible and hardworking. I am comfortable working independently, taking responsibility for animals and guests, or contributing as part of a team. I am always keen to learn local methods and understand how things are done on each property.
