  • Description

    Hey!
I'm Alex, I've just graduated uni and I'm looking to explore the world, see some places, meet some people and hopefully improve my language skills along the way!
Some of my hobbies include music- playing and listening- violin, drums and piano (badly); reading; learning french; hiking (or anything outdoors), and hanging out- maybe with some games in the mix (cards are best in my opinion!)

I'm new to the site, and so far have seen only a little bit of the world- mostly Europe (holidays to Spain, Portugal, Germany) but also lived in France for a year! I've also been lucky enough to see Australia, and South Africa, but would love to see more.

More details about my language interests
I have been learning French for a few years now, and got the opportunity to live in France for a year. I'd love to further that skill where possible; it's my ultimate goal to be fluent and I loved learning about how each region does things. I lived in Toulouse, where I quickly learned that it was chocolatine and not pain au chocolat (woe betide anyone who gets this wrong), and the experience was amazing. For my teaching capabilities, I am a native English speaker, who has a natural affinity for the language but also an educational one- my mother was an English teacher, so I understand a bit more about English grammar. I'd be happy to exchange that skill for anyone who might be interested.

  • More details about your skills

My main skill is that I'm up to try anything. I would consider myself a fast learner, and I enjoy learning new things.

For my more specific skill sets:
    - IT literacy
    - Experience working with children (I have 5 nephews, so I'm no stranger to babysitting- we do everything from playing games, sports and drawing!)
    - Working with people (I enjoy being sociable and take great enjoyment from working with and learning from others)
    - Physical activities- I'm an active person, so I'm very happy to do sweaty tasks
    - Creativity- I've always been quite creative; I paint, draw, sew and play instruments (violin, drums and piano), and I'd be very happy to use this skill where possible.
    - Time management skills
    - Positivity

  • What else ...

I enjoy a lot of everything. I love the outdoors- running, hiking, swimming, and I enjoy any form of exercise that comes my way.

I have an interest in conservation- I studied it at college, became vegetarian and have been interested in sustainable living ever since (I love animals too, and would welcome any opportunity to help with them).

As well as playing music (particularly my violin- I used to play for my county orchestra and chamber orchestra), I love to listen and have recently collected a set of vinyl records- my favourite one is ok computer by radiohead.

I love drawing, and take great enjoyment in doing this with other people; I'm part of an art society, but also enjoy doodling with my nephews when they come over to stay.

Finally, I'm a big fan of boardgames. As a family, we have indulged in our fair share (monopoly is now banned as a result), and I've tried more mainstream things (like risk) to more nuanced things like forbidden island. Anything co-op is amazing, and I love a good card game, too!
