Hi! I’m Wannes, a 24-year-old engineering graduate from Belgium with a big curiosity for the world around me. After finishing my degree, I spent five unforgettable months volunteering in Costa Rica — an experience that taught me a lot about nature, people, and myself. It inspired me to continue learning and exploring, so I decided to pursue another degree in New Zealand, where I’ve been living for the past nine months.
Before I dive into my professional career, I’m eager to further explore the world and connect with its people, this time while visiting Australia. Workaway provides the unique opportunity to do just that. I’m passionate about backpacking, travelling, music, and making new friends and memories along the way. I also enjoy the occasional party or beer—it's the Belgian in me! ;)

More details about my language interests
I love travelling and one of my favourite parts of it is being able to connect with locals in their own language. Coming from the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium, I’ve been learning French since I was 10 years old. After spending the past nine months in New Zealand, English has become my second language. Through Workaway, I’d love to keep improving my German and Spanish while learning from the people I meet along the way — it’s the best way to experience a country from the inside out!

I have been a dedicated Boy Scout leader for five years, giving me valuable experience in working with and entertaining children. Through this role, I developed strong teamwork skills and learned how to collaborate effectively to achieve ambitious goals. My responsibilities included organising trips, planning events, and overseeing financial management.

Additionally, I worked as a bartender in a restaurant for over two years during my student years. This experience taught me the importance of hard work and helped me refine my social skills through constant interaction with customers.

My previous Workaway experiences have given me more insight into what my strengths and interests are, especially how I like connecting with people and nature. Personal development automatically comes forth after you learn to enjoy life like that.
