    Description

We are a pretty busy family of 5.
My name is Linda and I came to Australia in 2006 from Germany. Since then a lot has happened: I travelled NZ for nearly a year and went back to Australia (Melbourne) to study. That's when I met my husband Angus and in 2016 we had our son Valentin and in 2020 our daughter Fraya. And just recently we added Pepper our Blue Dog to the pack. 🐕
Our home is a country town in East Victoria called Bairnsdale (about 3.5 hours from Melbourne) which has everything you need from Bunnings to Aldi ;)
Bairnsdale is near the mountains and the sea. It's a 30 min drive to the beach, 10 min walk/ bike ride to the river and a 2 hour driven to the snow :)

We live in a 3 bedroom house with garden and converted the garage into a little granny flat with its own ensuite.
We also have a few acres out of town with some sheep, fruit trees ,natives and a lot of grass.
Angus and I both run our own business which keeps us busy. We like adventures and when we get the time we enjoy camping, bike riding, boating, projects and exploring new areas and hanging out with the kidlets of course :)

There are always lots of things to do here and we don't sit still much 😝
From baby sitting, soccer playing, puzzles, cleaning, cooking , dogwalking, gardening, lawnmowing, fencing, repairing, painting, dancing, hiking, cooking, baking, swimming, chatting and chilling in the sun or by the fire... oh and eating of course :)

While we may not have a list set jobs and times for you, we would like a hand here and there with the ususal day to day tasks and things that are on the to do list.... and in exchange you're part of the family ;)
Food and accommodation is included of course and there are always things to explore.

We’ve always got a variety of projects on the go—cooking, baking, sourdough making, building, gardening (planting, pruning, fencing) and more. There’s always something to get involved with!

In your free time, you’re welcome to use our pushbikes to explore the nearby rail trail or river walks. We also enjoy camping, bushwalks, and discovering new places, and if you’re keen, you’re more than welcome to join us in our active social life.

    Accommodation

We have a selfcontained granny flat in the garden (with its own toilet and shower)
We would love for you to be part of the family and live and eat with us, but that's up to you. There is no real kitchen in the granny flat but you're welcome to use ours any time you like.

Please note: We are not a hotel.
We offer free food and accommodation in exchange for your help. This is a work exchange, not paid employment or a holiday stay. We really appreciate proactive helpers who can see where work is needed and take initiative. If you're hands-on, positive, and happy to contribute, you'll fit right in.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Please don’t treat our place like a hotel.
We offer free food and accommodation in exchange for help around the house and garden, and we expect everyone to pitch in and help keep things clean and tidy.

We’ve had people in the past who came to be served—that’s not what this is about. We're open and generous, love showing you around, and want you to enjoy your stay.

If you have strengths (or things you’re not so keen on), just have a chat with us—we’re flexible.
Most importantly: You must love kids!
