  • Description

    Sveiki, fellow Workawayers!
My name is Valters and I’m a student who enjoys using my free time to travel, learn new skills, and contribute to meaningful projects. For me, Workaway is not just about traveling — it’s about being useful, learning from others, and exchanging experiences in a real, hands-on way.
I’m a responsible, easygoing, and motivated person who doesn’t mind getting hands dirty. I like being active and productive, whether that’s helping with daily tasks, working outdoors, organizing things, or supporting whatever is needed. I’m also quick to adapt and always open to learning something completely new.
Outside of work, I stay active — volleyball keeps me moving, the gym keeps me disciplined, and I enjoy creative thinking through writing, poetry and playing chess (Pretty good at teaching it too :)).
I’m comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and I always try to bring a positive and respectful attitude to any environment I’m in.
As a guest/volunteer, I understand I’m stepping into someone’s home or project, not a hotel. I respect rules, routines, and shared spaces, and I’m always happy to help where I can — not just with assigned tasks, but also small things that make daily life easier.
I’m especially interested in learning more about the hosts country and culture to find a place to settle, meeting people from different backgrounds, and contributing to projects where attention, effort, and a responsible approach are appreciated.
If you’re looking for someone reliable, curious, and genuinely willing to help — I’d be happy to be part of your project.

More details about my language interests
My native languages are Latvian and Latgalian. Latvian is the official language of Latvia, while Latgalian is a regional language spoken by around 150,000 people in the world, mainly in the eastern part of the country. I would be happy to introduce and teach both of these languages to anyone interested in learning something a bit different and culturally unique. I am also fluent in English and have often taken high places in public speaking and language-related competitions, which has helped me develop strong communication and teaching skills. I feel confident explaining language in a clear and patient way, whether in casual conversation practice or more structured learning. In addition, I have a B1 level of Russian, which I can use in everyday communication, and I have recently started learning Spanish. I am very motivated to improve it further. I am always very interested in learning the host’s language as well. I enjoy language exchange and find it one of the best ways to connect with people and better understand different cultures.

  • More details about your skills

I grew up in the countryside, so I’m very used to practical, hands-on work from an early age. This includes taking care of animals, helping with farm work, basic construction tasks, painting, and general maintenance around the home and outdoors. I’m not afraid of physical work and I feel comfortable getting involved in a wide range of practical jobs.
I’m physically strong and have been training at the gym consistently for over 7 years, so I’m used to demanding and active work environments.
Alongside practical skills, I also have strong communication abilities. I’ve been involved in public speaking and performing for most of my life — including poetry reading competitions, leading cultural events, and participating in traditional Latgalian song and dance festivals. Because of this, I feel confident speaking in front of groups, working with people, and adapting to different social environments.
I have a very good level of English and can comfortably communicate in both casual and more professional settings. I would also be happy to help others learn languages, including English, Latvian, and Latgalian (a very rare language you probably havent heard of).
Overall, I’m a hardworking, adaptable, and open-minded person who is comfortable both working independently and as part of a team. I always try to approach tasks with responsibility, consistency, and a positive attitude.

  • What else ...

Outside of work and travel, I’m a very active and curious person. I’ve been playing volleyball for years, which keeps me energetic, social, and used to working well in a team. I also enjoy going to the gym regularly, which is a big part of my routine and helps me stay disciplined and focused.
In quieter moments, I enjoy chess — I like the strategic thinking and the challenge it brings, especially when playing with new people.
I also have a strong interest in poetry and creative expression. I’ve taken part in poetry recitation competitions and cultural events, which taught me confidence in public speaking and performing.
When it comes to relaxing and spending time with others, I really enjoy board and card games. Some of my favourites are Catan, Uno, Phase 10, and Ligretto.
Most of the time I will be travelling on workaway with my girlfriend, who is also into making the most out of life wherever we go! Our vision is to travel the world together, help people along the way and ultimately find a place to settle and call our home.
