  • Description

Hello! I’m Shuji from Japan, currently studying for a master’s degree in computer science.

I’m a curious person who enjoys learning by trying things for myself. My hobbies include playing the guitar, cooking, photography, and programming. I live on my own, so I am comfortable with everyday household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and keeping shared spaces tidy.

I have worked at McDonald’s for about two years, which taught me how to work reliably in a busy team, follow routines, and take care of essential tasks such as cleaning. I also teach children aged 8 to 15 how to create games using Scratch, so I am used to communicating patiently and explaining things clearly.

I can help with basic computer setup and IT problems, but I am just as willing to help with cooking, cleaning, gardening, animal care, farm work, and other practical tasks. I do not have professional farming experience yet, but I am interested in how technology can support small-scale and sustainable farming. In the future, I would like to explore a small project or business in this area, but first I want to understand the real work and everyday challenges of farms.

I have spent one month with a host family in Washington State and lived in a student dormitory during a two-week program in Singapore. These experiences taught me how to adapt to different routines and live respectfully with people from different backgrounds.

Through Workaway, I hope to experience everyday life in Canada rather than only travel as a tourist. I would like to improve my English through real communication and build genuine connections with hosts, other Workawayers, and local people. I respect shared spaces and take responsibility for the tasks I agree to do.

More details about my language interests
I am interested in both learning English and teaching Japanese. I have previously spent one month with a host family in the United States and participated in a two-week study-abroad program in Singapore. My English is not perfect yet, but I would like to improve my ability to communicate and learn more natural expressions through everyday conversations. I would also be happy to teach basic Japanese conversation and simple expressions to anyone interested in the Japanese language or culture. I hope we can enjoy learning from each other without worrying too much about making mistakes.

  • More details about your skills

I am currently studying computer science at graduate school, so I can help with programming, computer setup, and basic IT troubleshooting.

I also work with children between the ages of 8 and 15, teaching them how to create games using Scratch. I am comfortable working with children and explaining things clearly according to each child’s level of understanding.

Since I live on my own, I can handle basic household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, and keeping things organized. I enjoy cooking and would be happy to prepare some Japanese home-style dishes.

Although I do not yet have much experience with farming or gardening, I enjoy learning new things. As long as I am shown what to do, I will ask questions when necessary and carry out the work responsibly. I may also be able to help with playing the guitar, photography, and basic photo or video editing when needed.
