Hi,
I'm 25 years old, studied Mechanical engineer and working for 3 years in the design Department of an electronic power supply vendor. In September I will do a work and travel year in Kanada.

I live and grew up at a small farm in Germany (~3 HA). We have about 20 chickens and 10 sheeps. Also some Fruit and fir trees.
So I already have some experience with crafting, gardening and cutting down trees. (Chainsaw training for small trees completed)

In my free time I like hiking, biking, Photographie and skiing.

I was staying with James and Jocelyn for five weeks, and it was absolutely outstanding—it exceeded all my expectations. They are super nice and I instantly felt welcome. They are interested in cultural and language differences so it was always fun talking about those things.

The work was excellent, I was mostly pruning the fruit trees, but they … read more always gave me the opportunities to do something different if I got bored from that type of work. So we also made fresh and delicious apple juice, did some construction work at the garage and digged holes for water pipes. I learned a lot and James was always willing to stop his work to teach me things, even if it wasn't a topic for now. For example, he showed me to graft branches to other trees. Just that I can learn for my own purpose.

They are super flexible with food. You can cook your own meals, and they supply you with all you need, or you just join them. If I did, I had always the choice of several meals or could even request meals that I like.

While I was at their place I've got some mechanical issues with my car and James wasn't hesitating for a second to help me get it fixed. I really appreciated that.

The basement apartment was super modern, good heated and air-conditioned. You have the apartment for your own. So your own washroom, bedroom, living room with TV and kitchen. Everything was clean, modern and tastefully decorated so it felt like a cozy home for me the entire time. Nevertheless, it's a basement, so a little bit dark, but I would recommend anyway to go outside and enjoy the Nature whenever possible.

You just need to know that Cawston is a tiny and widely spread village. If you're looking for bars, breweries and nightclubs it's the wrong place for you. But they told me that there is live music every weekend at the surrounding vineries during summer. Anyhow, I fully recommend getting your own vehicle if you want to visit this place. Nevertheless, there is also a nice hike that you can easily start from the Farm. It's called Barcelo Canyon Back country loop. Gorgeous hike along a river and a waterfall until you finally reach the summit with a stunning view over the
Similkameen Valley.

Oh, and Cawston itself is a super unique place in Canada. It's kind of a desert resulting in much more sun and warmer temperatures than in other parts of Canada. I was there in early spring, and it was the best place to be. Sunny 20+°C, working in shorts and T-Shirt already in beginning of March!

So finally I can totally recommend staying at this place if you have the chance. There's absolutely no reason to hesitate!
