  • Description

    Hello!

    Short version:
My name's Robert, and I'll trade you physical labour & wacky chat for some local culture & a place to sleep.

    Long version:
My name's Robert, and I'm travelling around New Zealand between 26/08 and 11/11.

Obviously I'm going to be ticking off a few tourist traps, but I'm also keen to meet new people and really get immersed in the local scene. I'm pretty handy on the tools, and I love a bit of hard graft, so would be keen to get involved with any hands-on projects. If they're outdoors, then even better!

I like to spend as much of my free time as possible walking, running, rock climbing, or just getting outside. I love to chat about the weird and wonderful, and find that absurd conversation topics are never too far away. I also play quite a bit of music, but unfortunately all my instruments will be back home :(

I spent an amazing 6 weeks earlier this year helping to renovate an old 1960s house near Fontainebleau in France, and I'm hoping to recreate some of that magic on a different continent, as well as collect a few new experiences.

  • More details about your skills

I'm an engineer by trade, mostly on the design side but have spent quite a bit of time working on the shop floor.

I'm pretty handy at most things DIY:
    - Most power tools (power drills, pillar drills, grinders, sanders, circular saws, etc. etc.)
    - Wooden projects & furniture (Have built multiple climbing walls, bike sheds, shelving, pallet furniture, etc.)
    - Car/bike/mechanical maintenance & repair
    - Basic electrical
    - Gardening (digging, planting, tree pruning, picking, etc.)
    - Rope rigging
    - I can also juggle if that's of any use

I see a lot of requests for farm help on here - I grew up with a small flock of chickens, but no experience of farm animals with 4 legs. Definitely up for giving it a go though!
