We are a busy family who live in a place where you can explore the outdoors without tons of people and tourists. A place that is unique with no fast food restaurants or chain hotels.

This exchange would likely really be about NATURE, CHILDREN, and COMMUNITY. Haida Gwaii is a special place to visit. It is hard to find a place to stay here. There are no big chains or hotels here and Air b'n'b is quite limited. It's a local-oriented culture, and so living with a family here will give you a special sense of this place, its forests and trails, and its community.
We are an ideal location to visit old Massett which has many galleries and long houses in which you could connect with local artists and locals. Farmers market is on Fridays which is always fun. We are located minutes from beach and river side. Naikoon park has hiking options and endless beaches near by. Take a tour with local fishermen and go fishing and catch beautiful spring, coho, and halibut. In the fall there are wonderful opportunities to go mushroom picking for chanterelles and other delights. Watch the salmon run up the Yakoun river in fall. Maybe you will also see our local Chown river bear. For sure the Sandhills Cranes, Eagles, and Geese that frequent the beach in the spring and summer. Spring, fall and winter has incredible storms and surf breaks. If you like it wild. :)Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
My husband is developing an acreage near the beach in the Naikoon provincial park and there is a place available there if you're interested in an off-grid experience. We are building a martial arts gym and a house. I am transitioning out there with the kiddos - ages 6, 8 and 12. You will be joining my home, which is currently occupied by myself, my husband when he's not working and my three kids. You will be helping me with the kids and household chores, cooking, housekeeping, playing with the kids, exploring, walking dogs.
As a member of the house, you would help with the kids and with general things involving caretaking the property. This may involve spending time playing games with the kids—reading to them, helping them to further their outdoor education through play, going on walks and/or forest or beach adventures, biking, forest trails, swimming at the local beaches, art projects, and so on. I also ask for help with laundry, general cleaning and tidying. All of this frees me up to work when needed.
We will come up with a regular schedule so that you can plan other activities around it.Languages

If you join us, you’d be living together with me and the kids in a little cozy 4 bedroom home on a cul-de-sac very close to the town. It is walking distance to all of the stores, coffee shop, library, hospital, restaurants, trails, estuary and beaches. You will have your own private room with a double bed, nightstand, couch, dresser, table and chairs. There is a private bath/shower right next to your room, and a toilet on the main floor also shared by the house during the day as it is right off the kitchen. All utilities included of course with fibre optic high speed internet.
The kitchen is shared with me and the kids. You are invited to join us for meals, but my kids eat meat, so meat will sometimes be cooked in the house.A little more information
