Description
We are a Science teacher and a doctor from the UK and finally going on our big adventure! We are planning on going exploring for a year. We love being outdoors and are interested in wildlife and conservation so regularly go hiking, camping, paddle-boarding, bird-watching, tending the garden and foraging. Cam grew up as a keen swimmer and still had a passion for exercise today through his HIIT workouts and running. His love of exercise has also driven a love of food and therefore cooking. Cam loves to find and create new recipes from fresh, local and good quality produce. I (Rachel) have a keen interest in all things nature including bird-watching, bee and bat walks and plant identification. I also love catching up with and stay in contact with friends from around the world. This trip is to allow us to immerse ourselves in and soak up the local cultures which always happens best through meeting and sharing experiences with new people.
We have completed three previous workaways throughout Australia and had the best time. These were all focused on outdoor maintenance and nature as this is our primary interest and love. We helped with several aspects of gardening (composting, weeding, planting, pruning, harvesting), dam building, a small amount of livestock care, cooking, child care and general house maintenance including cleaning and minor repairs. Skills picked up along the way include grouting, basic fence making and angle grinding.

We are British so are both fluent in English. I am interested in helping people practice their English. I am interested in learning other languages and have some knowledge of French but am not able to converse fluently.

Cam is fit and loves any manual task. He has DIY experience including redecorating, gardening, patio laying, woodwork and although doesn't have any specific craft training he is a quick learner. He is also an excellent and willing cook. Cam being a teacher is very good with kids and loves to get involved in conversation and games. Cam grew up with a dog so is very comfortable handling and training dogs. Cam also lived with a host family in Zanzibar, Tanzania for 3 months whilst he was teaching in local schools which was an amazingly enriching experience for him.
I am always willing to help out with any tasks although I may not be as strong as Cam. I am a doctor back home in the UK and love to interact with new people and hear their stories. If anyone is interested in practicing their English I would love to help them with this.
We both love working outdoors with animals and hope to have a smallholding of our own one day. Currently we look after our chickens and have started the process of developing a wildlife focused garden. We do have some foraging experience from simple berry picking to mushrooms but would love to develop this further.

Cam is quite sporty and loves exercise whereas I am happy with slower paced activities like board games. We both love hiking. Cam has grown up with a dog and we have two chickens now as well as a little garden that we have tried to make as good for wildlife as possible. Cam loves food and cooking. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories.
