Description
Hi there! I'm Ellen and it's nice to meet you. Originally from The Netherlands, then moved to the USA after I met Todd in 1997.
After fulfilling careers, we left the the corporate desk jobs in 2022, sold our house and now embrace a slow nomad lifestyle, living in one country/region for 1-3 months. We are fortunate to spend more time doing the things we love most: volunteering, adventuring, learning, and meeting new people and cultures along the way.
While we enjoy each other's company, we also enjoy pursuing our own interests and at the moment, my Workaways are solo.

More details about your skills
My biggest skill may be 'flexibility'. I simply enjoy helping where I can be most useful and am easy to get along with. In addition to various Workaway experiences, I've also volunteered in English immersion programs and as pet-sitter (references available).
I am a do-er by nature; hospitality is in my heart and veins. Originally from The Netherlands, I studied Hotel Management and worked in luxury hotels for years, yet equally love hostels, campgrounds, and Airbnbs: pretty much anywhere where people from different backgrounds come together.
My most recent career job was in recruiting hotel managers, a company that I founded and ran for 12 years. I really enjoyed connecting people to their new dream jobs. Along the way, I've learned a lot about people and running a business.
During my time living in Denver, I volunteered at a homeless Café, with Project Cure, an NGO that collects and ships medical goods around the world, and at the Denver Botanical Gardens where I learned so much about native plants.
There is just something special about growing food and then preparing it together with others. I enjoy eating lots of vegetables and could be called flexitarian. Not too picky as long as it is fresh, embraces herbs and spices and is enjoyed with great people.
I am active and love being outdoors. Long walks, cycling, mountain biking, paddle-boarding, snorkeling and skiing are some of myfavorite sports. Not a skill perhaps, but certainly a passion that drives us to spend lots of time in nature.
I enjoy being around kids, mostly in a mentorship/teaching role than babysitting, always with open adult-like communication. What better experience than raising our own two sons, who are now both at University? We do not have any pets currently, allowing more freedom as we wander the globe, but enjoy animals all the same.
I am curious to learn more about Eastern medicine, fermented foods, would like to learn to play the harmonica and educate myself deeper into world history.
Hopefully, that gives you a bit of a glimpse of me. Surely, we have lots more to exchange when we meet in person.

After an initial warm welcome, tour and hugs from the girls, we quickly settled into a daily routine. From 1 to 3 pm, we helped the two oldest with their homeschooling, then enjoyed playtime and visits to the park, followed by meal preparation, getting dinner on the table by around 6 pm, and… read more
