  • Description

    Hi, I’m Merle!
I’m 19 years old, from a small city in Germany, and I just finished high school this year. Ever since I was little, I’ve felt the urge to explore the world – to discover new places, learn new things, meet interesting people, and experience different cultures.

That’s why I decided to spend a year traveling through Europe. No strict plans, just an open heart and a curious mind. I want to discover who I am outside of school and expectations – to live life freely, for myself, and make the most of this time.

I’m a pretty versatile person – sometimes adventurous and full of energy, sometimes more thoughtful and quiet. I love being creative, whether it’s painting, crocheting, or acting – I’ve been performing on stage for about three years now. I also absolutely love animals: I grew up with cats, currently live with a dog and eight axolotls, and have been riding horses for nine years.

Thanks to my passion for horses, I’ve spent a lot of time working at stables – caring for animals and helping out as a camp counselor during holiday camps for kids. I really enjoy working with both animals and people, especially when I get to take responsibility and be part of a team.

Why do I travel? To grow. To see the world through different eyes, to learn new skills, and to connect with people from all walks of life. I hope to meet kind, inspiring hosts and fellow travelers and to share unforgettable moments together.

I’m new to Workaway, but I truly love the idea behind it: learning from one another, sharing experiences, and making meaningful connections. I’m looking forward to being part of that – bringing motivation, kindness, and a big smile with me wherever I go.

Who knows what this journey will bring – but I’m ready. 🌍✨

  • More details about your skills

Over the past few years, I’ve gained experience in a variety of areas, especially when it comes to working with people and animals, taking responsibility, and being hands-on. Here are some of the things I’ve done so far:
    • Childcare experience: I worked at an elementary school where I helped care for children, planned creative activities, did crafts with them, and supported them in their day-to-day needs. I’ve also worked as a camp supervisor during children’s holiday programs.

    • Horse care and stable work: I’ve spent a lot of time at a horse stable, where I took care of the horses and helped run riding camps for kids. My tasks included feeding, grooming, groundwork, lunging, riding, and taking the horses on walks.

    • Tutoring: I’ve supported middle school students in math, helping them understand difficult topics and gain confidence in their skills.

    • Medical responsibility: At school, I volunteered as a school paramedic, assisting in first-aid situations and being there when someone needed quick help.

    • Practical and technical skills: I completed a short-term internship as a PTA in a pharmacy, gaining insight into healthcare and customer interaction. I also worked as a temporary assistant in a carpentry, where I supported with manual tasks and got to work with tools and materials.

These experiences have helped me become flexible, reliable, and open-minded. I enjoy learning new things, working as part of a team, and giving my best wherever I can help!
