Description
Hola,
My name's Maria, I'm 58 and I come from Barcelona, where I live with my two grown up children, Aurora, 26, and Oriol, 24. I just joined the workaway community because I will have a 4 month break at work in the summer, and I would like to have the opportunity to go abroad and participate in a collaborative experience, while enjoying of a cultural exchange.
I'm free from June 15th to September 15th and I would like to start my Workaway journey by visiting Norway. I have always been attracted by the beauty of its nature and, most important, by the lifestyle and values of its people. I tremendously admire their honesty, simplicity and respect for nature and environment, and would like to learn about these values from you.
I've always had a passion for different cultures and languages and, although I haven't got any previous experience as a workawayer, I do have experience living abroad, and sharing and collaborating with other people. I started my first big adventure at the very early age of 18, when I moved to England and lived there for 2 years and, later, I went to Germany, where I also spent 2 years more. During this time I was aupair with two families for a year and a half and I spent 10 months studying at the University of Hildesheim with the Erasmus scholarship.
Im a translator and interpreter from English and German into Spanish, and I’ve also worked as a high school teacher of English as a second language. I’ve always had a very high sensitivity for people and interest in pedagogy and the significant role of education in society.
I'm a very active person and, although I have a full time job, I always find time to spend with my family and friends, and to do things I enjoy, such as reading, swimming and getting lost in nature. Socialising is really important for me too, so I also enjoy being with friends and sharing the activities I mentioned, as well as going to concerts. I'm a music lover and rock&roll is my fuel!
About my tasks as Workawayer, I’m sure I would be a very suitable person to take care of children or people in general, to be in charge of the cooking and all kind of housekeeping tasks, and also to carry out outdoor activities, such as gardening, farming, etc -

More details about your skills
-I’m an excellent cook. I love spending time in the kitchen, either following recipes or creating my own ones, with all I can find in the fridge.
-I love children. I started taking care of children when I was very young, as a babysitter, and later, as a mother, I learnt how much I enjoy being with kids.
-I like pedagogy and teaching, especially languages -as that is one of my strengths-, but also other types of subjects.
-I like to live in clean, clear and tidy spaces, so I've become really expert in cleaning and tidying up. I even like it, believe it or not...
-I'm good at working with my hands and I don't mind having to do physical tasks, especially if it is in the open air. -
