My next destination:
Switzerland - from Jul 2021 until Jul 2026 View allDescription
Hi there! :)
I am Maca, chilean, 35 years old, eager learner and enthusiastic traveller.
I left my country without a return ticket in 2014 to sail into the adventure and raise my understanding about the universe, the people, and myself.
I traveled for almost 5 years in a row, hitchhiking, volunteering, and expanding; it was amazing.
Now I stopped my traveling to settle for a while in the countryside of the French-speaking part of Switzerland (VD). I am following a CFC (degree) in boat construction that lasts 4 years—in June 2025 I will be doing my final exam... almost there! :) - .
These studies have taught me lots of new technical and professional skills that I would be happy to put into practice & service in my next workaways.
Even with this newly acquired stability, I would like to continue workawaying once in a while... to continue sharing valuable moments with this amazing workaway community. Sometimes I will be travelling with my White Swiss Shepherd , so that he shares some of it :)
BONUS INFO
People that I have co-worked with describe me as a positive, curious, open-minded person with a good balance between work and play.
I would add in this description that I value connecting with beings and places. I am a lover of good storytelling, so books and movies are good friends. I also love drawing, music, dancing, and singing, as well as trekking, biking, and sports in general. Being social and being alone (everything has a moment). Adventure seeking, sharing meals, and laughing are definitely inside the "activities-I-love bucket", too. :)
I care a lot about our spiritual/mind awareness, although I don't have any names or labels for it: I have big respect for the earth and the energy that connects this and us all. I believe that we are all learners, that we can make a difference (towards others and ourselves), and that everything is about balance.Interests

More details about your skills
I can happily help with anything needed. If I don't know it, I will put serious effort and curiosity in action to learn it as well and as fast as possible.
If this description is enough for you, you don't need to read any further! So that I don't bore you :)
... BUT if that is too short for your curiosity, please feel free to read the long version, where I detail a bit more my strong and weak points:
5 STRONG POINTS
___________________________
1. USE OF TOOLS AND MACHINES
Thanks to my boat construction studies, I have acquired the professional theory and proper practice in the use of tools, machines, materials (wood, fiber, metal, plexiglas, epoxy, etc) and the right security protocols. I have a practical basis in electricity (mainly 12v but some of 220v too) and a theoretical basis in motor mechanics.
2. ANIMAL AND PLANTS
Enjoy taking care of animals & plants/trees. I am not afraid of working hard or making my hands dirty: even if it is to build a wall made of horse-poo & cactus-mucus!
Real story. haha
3. ART AND CREATION
Design, organization, and decoration are something I really enjoy, and I'm good at. I love to create new uses for things that are all forgotten in a corner... and combine them to form something beautiful.
4. SOCIAL SKILLS & CHILD CARE
Before boats, I had always worked in communication/customer-oriented areas (reception, hotels, language institutes, tourist guide, scouts, and adult and children's projects in cultural-artistic fields).
I have experience taking care of children of all ages.
5. FLEXIBILITY
I had the opportunity of living in the driest desert in the world (Atacama) as well as in the tropical rains of Brazil, in a very wealthy position or sleeping on the floor for months with little to eat and no more hot water than a small kettle.
I think all that has made me learn and appreciate things in a different way (not better or worst... just different), making me develop a big sense of adaptability.
5 WEAK POINTS
_____________________________________
1. AWFUL memory for important dates, without Google Calendar, & certain inability to perform FAST MATH calculations, without a calculator. ;P
2. I'm ok with short periods of "stress to boost work", but not constant, long, permanent states of stress.
3. I can be quite PERFECTIONIST, so sometimes I can be SLOWER than my peers at work. But at the end, the task is properly done and aesthetically pleasing.
4. Life makes us face little daily frustrations. I strongly believe that sense of humor is the key to overcoming them and making everyday life much more amazing. I have some difficulty being patient for a long time with people that, instead of finding a solution (or accepting the fate of a situation we cannot change), get stuck in frustration and spread negativity. We can all have positive and negative state days; it is part of life... but for me, negative must not be a permanent state.
5. Fast learner but sometimes needs refreshing if task was not done in a long time... because after months of non-use, the memory is unreachable under an ultra giant layer of dust ^^

If something needs to be discussed, I am happy to have group conversations to improve communal life... as I am also happy to accept constructive criticism to be able to improve myself. ...Always with -and from- love. :)Age

What else ...
I couldn’t be happier about discovering this webpage: as I love learning so much, I have always complained about the difference in today's education in relation to the past, when you could just knock on Leonardo da Vinci's door and say, “I want to be your apprentice. I can live here and work for you... please teach me everything you know.” This platform is giving people that chance!
IF YOU GIVE ME THE CHANCE:
I highly value the welcome that many hosts are willing to give workawayers to their daily lives and homes. If you give me the chance to live and learn from you, I will sincerely try to give my best to reciprocate this kindness and generosity through hard work and dedication.

I workawayed for this family a couple of months -staying longer than expected-, and then left for 3 months to travel (moment when I received their feedback). Then I decided to return to The Netherlands and I worked with them until I left Europe; about one year and a half in total.
I seriously recommend this host-family. If you choose… read more
