I'm a friendly, respectful, calm, dependable and fun-loving independent woman.

Looking to escape my middle-age comfort zone and connect with meaningful opportunities to meet new people and learn about different ways of living, while being of service in the world :)

This is my second experience activating my Workaway profile. In 2017 I traveled to different continents and enjoyed connecting through Workaway, and especially my first property/farmstay experience in Italy (thank you Cathy and Keith!)

As a home guest, you can count on me to be tidy, friendly, responsible, and independent. As a workawayer, I promise to focus and commit to the job, small or big.

Top skills I bring are organizing, cooking, in a previous era I was an English as a Foreign Language teacher, and I'm open to learning new skills :)

I am a certified archivist, with professional experience working for organizations but also specializing in personal digital archives and home organizing. I am also a TEFL certified English instructor and tutor. I love cooking; gardening/farm help; I'm an experienced pet sitter; I enjoy meditation and self-care; and have over two decades of experience in child care, which includes multiple first aid/CPR trainings.

Five+ stars for the beautiful, organized, outstanding Workaway experience offered by Cathy and Keith during my week-long stay with them in early September 2017. EXCELLENT and THANK YOU do not do justice to how much I appreciate their thoughtfulness in creating a meaningful experience for a first-time Workawayer, one that was tailored to meet the… read more needs of a new outdoor-worker like me. Although new to Workaway, I'm not new to co-living, shared volunteer work and the hospitality industry, so I do know what a great experience these hosts created for me. It's clear they're in the Super Host category and know how to treat their volunteer work stays with respect, friendliness, and consideration. This is what I take away from spending time working with them on their wonderfully, purposefully designed property.

In just one week, I learned and experienced so much! Where do I begin...I helped out with property chores such as moving stored firewood to prepare for the coming seasons as well as making charcoal, which was the first time for me and very cool. We discussed and did a bit of olive tree maintenance; fruit and nut tree harvesting; sustainable goat, pig and poultry care (and breeding considerations! Hi, Owen, hope you're feeling well! :)). Keith took the time to explain their amazing home solar/green energy set up. and of course, Cathy took time to navigate me through the veggie gardening, and especially their smart gardening and planning that allows for living mostly from growing their own food. What they've built on their property is just awesome, I so admire their dedication and way of life.

While busy with managing their own work and projects as well as their other business, they were always available and so patient and genuinely thoughtful in teaching and sharing information about how and why they do what they do. And then I was trusted to try out the work. The work was really great, a diverse set of projects, not too strenuous and again, meaningful. "Work hard, play hard," was a fantastic expectation to set, and it was met in a truly positive way. I learned a lot, got tired out, and then had a great time and great conversation at the end of each day. I also saw and learned a bit about the Puglia region, especially the unique landscape of the Trulli, and was given an opportunity to meet neighbors and other Workaway folks. I wound up really feeling a sense of community spending time there, and as a solo traveller these past few months, that meant a great deal.

I could go on and on, adding to the warm and well-deserved reviews of others who had a great experience like I did. But I'll end by saying, Cathy and Keith, I'm so grateful to you two! And to the Workaway community for connecting me to you and this lovely opportunity. I only hope it helped you out even a tiny bit as much as it benefitted me! Wishing you a beautiful, happy rest of 2017, and, beyond. I hope our paths cross again someday! Win-Win! :)

Lauren is a great workawayer, considerate and generous guest, nice company and hard-working. Although she's a newby in the garden and on the land, her enthusiasm and perseverence more than make up for any lack of knowledge. It was a real pleasure having her stay and work with us.
