  • Description

Kia ora! We are Mila and Jim, a couple who have recently embarked on our Workaway journey!

We are passionate about travel and giving back to communities. We love learning from new people and exploring new places. We thrive on deep conversations with all kinds of people, and appreciating the beauty of life.

Our goal is to find alternative ways to travel that allow us to learn and grow, as individuals and together as a couple. Mila practices daily yoga and meditation, and Jim loves to discover coffee in the local area wherever we are. Together we enjoy hiking, swimming, dancing to live music and just embracing life. We both have self-built vans we travel in back home that hold a special place in our hearts.

We aren't afraid to get our hands dirty and work hard wherever we go! We believe in peace and making the world a better place in any way that we can.

We look forward to meeting you :)

  • More details about your skills

Mila recently graduated from The university of Auckland (BA in Sociology and Gender Studies), and has since been working at an organisation in Wellington, New Zealand, that provides free healthcare to youth. She has also recently worked with Good For, a New Zealand business that are helping to encourage sustainability in New Zealand by teaching people to go plastic-free where possible and to reduce food waste in Aotearoa. She has travelled all around the world, volunteering teaching English in Cambodia, and at a wildlife rescue centre in Laos. She is also physically capable to do manual labour: gardens, farming, building, painting etc. (as she has experience doing this in previous volunteer positions).

Jim has a broad range of skills. He is specialised in coffee making and roasting. He is very interested in business, and ways to help people improve their business both big and small to get the most out of their hard work. He has worked in other roles doing high level physical and construction labour, with a forklift license. Most recently he has worked as a technician repairing e-scooters in Wellington city. Jim is also naturally a very patient person and would be capable in a teaching role or working with children. He is passionate about giving back to communities by using his skills in whatever way necessary.

As a couple, we both have a wide range of skills and are confident in applying them in different situations depending on what hosts are looking for, including the following:
    - Building, construction, labouring, painting.
    - Planting, gardening, farming.
    - Writing, creative projects, planning, organising
    - Professional background in NGO / not-for-profit work
    - Cleaning, housework etc
    - Social skills, teaching, babysitting / childcare

We are keen to get involved and work hard (not just looking for a holiday), as we want to learn from and give back to local communities. We would love opportunities to work on creative and eco projects.
