Hello everyone, my name is Gerline van Leeuwen. I am 32 years old and l am from the Netherlands. The last 4,5 years I lived in Germany.

I have previously stayed and worked at several Workaway addresses in Scotland. These were wonderful experiences for both myself and the hosts. This has involved working on a farm, at a bed and breakfast, caring for a home and family, and caring for elderly people.

Taking care of animals is in my blood. I've been riding horses since I was 11 and have regularly taken part in competitions. I obtained my diploma after a 4-year study in animal care at Aeres College. During this study I did an internship in various places: at various zoos, a horse farm, farm animal zoo, pet shop, sheep farm and cat shelter. So you could say that I have quite a bit of experience taking care of animals. Since 2,5 years I have my own business as hoof trimmer for horses.

Now I am ready for a new challenge. I hope to gain some new unique work experiences during this trip.
I am a hard worker and I am not quick to complain. I want to develop myself further and I think this step would really help me achieve that. My English is quite good. I am an enthusiastic, cheerful, honest and very polite person.

I am working currently as a hoof trimmer for horses, which I love. I have got a degree in professional animal care. During this study I learned thing like: the nutrition, health, cleaning, management and training of animals.

I have been taking care of other peoples animals when they were on vacation.

I also like to work outside (and don't mind the rain :)

Cooking is one of my skills and i am getting very positive feedback.

I am not afraid of some chores in and around the house, such as small repairs, cleaning and gardening. I am very motivated to learn new skills.

I have my trailer driver's license. And I have experience driving a tractor and other heavier machines.

My skills come out best when I work independently. Which makes me very self-reliant and independent. But I don't mind working together either.

Furthermore, I am reliable and have a high sense of responsibility. I am flexible, even if things don't go as intended I will continu. I am a real go-getter.

And I am physically fit. (I run half marathons:)

I have my own car, which is self-contained. I prefer to have a set place to sleep, but if this is not possible, I can also sleep in my car.

It's no problem for me to provide my one food because of my food intolerance.

Gerline was great. She was very easy to get along with and has a real can do attitude. We went for a very long walk together one day in the bush around Whakatane which was most enjoyable. Gerline is an outdorsey, determined and friendly person. Totally recommend.

I spent two weeks with Lynne and Arthur. It was a wonderful time. The bus to sleep in is perfect. The food is delicious. The work is very satisfying. And the view is fantastic. Definitely recommended.

I spent a week with Inne, Jack, Lou and Millie. It was amazing. I would have loved to stay longer. But the next Workawayer took over from me.
The girls are really lovely and it was great fun playing with them.
Inne and Jack are lovely hosts who are easy to communicate with. They gave me plenty of freedom and trust right from the start.

I stayed with Naomi for two weeks.
My sleeping space was so nice that the ants wanted to stay there too. Naomi did her best to get rid of the ants in an animal-friendly way, but unfortunately it didn’t work. Gerline stayed with us for 2.5 weeks over the holiday period. She was a hard worker both inside and outside the house and we often found her doing chores around the house without prompting. I stayed with Shay and Emily for 2.5 weeks. A beautiful place and very remote. The work was very enjoyable and dynamic. Building an outdoor enclosure for the cats, dismantling an old chicken coop, disposing of old metal and removing a plaster wall.
There is a nice walk to a waterfall. And the largest Kauri tree is also nearby.

I have had almost 10 great weeks at the place - a beautiful place with breathtaking surroundings and a nice family to live and work with.
