I have always dreamed of doing work and travel in Australia after school! I’d love to spend both time at the ocean and do some sightseeing in cities while trying out e. g. farm jobs in between:)

Description

Hey!

My name is Cinja, I’m 19 years old and I’m from a small village in northern Germany. I just graduated and decided to do a gap year before going to university in October of 2026. From August to September this year, I went on an Interrail journey through Europe for four weeks with a friend of mine and we had an unforgettable time. I’ve also seen a lot of Europe already thanks to family journeys, so now, I can’t wait to get to another continent and discover even more of the world far away from home.

I’m planning to do work and travel in Australia, starting next January, because I’ve wanted to do this for as long as I can remember. My plans are still very vague, but in general I’d like to see the East Coast including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Over all, I don’t want to miss spending as much time by the sea as possible. I love the ocean, that’s why I own a diving license and I’m currently in the process of obtaining a recreational boat license.

I would describe myself as hard-working, because I am used to putting all of my energy into a project, whether I like it or not, to finish it as best as possible. Additionally, I’ve been passionate for languages all those past years in school. I learnt three foreign languages and I chose Australia to practice speaking English. Being reliable, honest and foresighted are other values of mine.

In my free-time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, spending time with friends and family, trying out new recipes, swimming and cycling. I’d say I’m rather an introvert because I am thoughtful and empathetic, but among the right people, I can also be outgoing. I’m incredibly excited about the journey, because I want to step out of my comfort zone, become more independent, meet amazing people and just live an entirely different life than ever before.

I’d like to improve my English and gain more practice in speaking it in everyday life, however, I would be equally happy about French and Spanish. Learning a bit of Italian, Dutch or Swedish would be cool, too.

This year, I successfully passed my Abitur (German A-Levels) with English, German and Biology as my core subjects. I have always been curious about nature and how life works, so Biology was one of my favourite subjects. I also like animals, even though we never had a pet, but I’d fancy learning more about animal care and farming.

I already gained some varied work experiences, for instance, I did an internship at a jeweller’s during school, gave tuition to a younger student in almost every subject and worked full-time in the production sector of a plastics company, so I am familiar with shift systems. Furthermore, I like gardening activities such as mowing the lawn and weeding and I helped renovating an apartment by painting walls. Recently, I have also been responsible for an enterprise’s scullery.

On the one hand, I have always been a creative person because I crafted from a very young age and began drawing later on. Sometimes, I make macramés (knotting cords or threads to create decorative items or textiles) and bracelets to exchange at concerts. On the other hand, I find pleasure in carrying out practical tasks such as assembling a cupboard.

Currently, I’m working as a waitress in a restaurant in the neighbourhood which requires being friendly, attentive, stress resistant and polite all the time. Besides, I would be curious about working on farms and plantations.
