Description

Well what can I say, lets start with my name and go from their; Hi my name is Charlotte and I'm originally from the UK. I say originally as I left Norfolk (East of England) 6 years ago and headed out to Canada on a 2 year working holiday visa. I had the most amazing time in Canada and can't believe how quickly the time has flown by, I mainly stayed on the West coast and experienced all weathers including flooding, forest fires and frozen water pipes. I have also stayed with hosts and made some close friends and people I call family from these experiences. I also added to my skill set and can now drive horse and cart, bob cat, sail boats (well know my way round a sail boat), looked after live stock, gardening, built outbuildings and desks and more, so thank you Canada!! Thats where my journey started but its evolved and grown, so catch a cold, I catch a bug... a travel bug.

I would say I have come out of my shell more, I also like to meditate thanks to completing a 10 day Nobel silent retreat that kind of open my eyes and gave me more clarity, real turning point!! I have also recently completed a life coach course, I haven't decided if I want to become a full time coach but I loved the experience and use these skills in my every day living.

I am a competent person with common sense and a willingness to learn as well as teach. I have an ability of seeing what needs to be done and have a willingness to get it done after discussing it with you first of course. The way I look at it is us (Workaways) are coming to stay with you to assist to make your lives easier, be it by helping with daily tasks, completing tasks that you just haven't got round too or a combination.

I am a hard worker and can work with others but am not afraid to take a task on by myself, you can let me know what you would like me to do and leave me to it or given direction.

As for my downtime, I do like to get to know your way of living and culture, I love to read, go for walks, listen to music, being with good people sharing stories and enjoy food.

I'm kind of a Jack of all trades - I have worked with horses (can ride English, western and carriage drive), can drive (stick) car, truck, tractor, quad, bob cat, have worked in hospitality from server to manager, been in sales, owned my own successful business, been a home owner, run my own home, understand how to keep garden alive, even dug a BIG pond and done lots of other things in between.

I love all animals and am able to look after them, im a country girl and been around animals my whole life, if I'm honest the one thing I miss most about being a traveler is that I don't have a dog, with this said I am so happy to adopt your animals while I'm with you and am happy to get stuck in no matter the weather.

as I have mentioned I like to learn, I have had many hobbies including swimming, horse riding, singing and running, I like to go on walks and I meditate every day at least once a day. When it comes to other activities like board games ect I can be stubborn and competitive but not a sore looser, I like thinking games which are fun and have variety, like monopoly or Uno (my rules :) ). I can't however stand video games, this is not my idea of fun! I do like a good book, I love to read.

Where to start .... so I was fortunate enough to spend 4 months here and I am so grateful to Ms Betty, Ms Benny, Sebastian and everyone else that made me feel like a part of the family. I have a place in Ecuador that I can and will call home.

So the camp is just outside Quito, it is a short walk to all the different amenities and its really easy … read more to get a taxi, uber or bus if you want to venture out. I had a large room with ensuite bathroom and Ms Benny cook amazing food every day. The food is good quality and very healthy, you are fed well! The teaching was also very rewarding, they mainly wanted me to do the verbal class. The students are staying for a 3 month intense course to learn the English language. As I know no Spanish, Sebastian teached the students grammar and I was teaching them how to conduct english conversations and made sure they were able to understand and hold a conversation is English, its hard to teach grammar without any Spanish which is why I did the vocational lessons, which worked for me and the students, they love having native English teachers. You also have access to lesson plans and different literature material if you get stuck on what to do in class. You have a lot of free range in the classroom to, I would take them to the town and get them to translate what the shop assistant said, we would sit and talk about the local area, culture, their dreams, ambition, lots of different topics play games. The other thing you need is patients, my students are very bright and they just needed some encouragement and patience from me, its easy to answer for them but if you give them time to think they get it, confidence is all my students needed. I had a class for 3 when I arrived and then for about 2 months I only had 1 student. The classes will always be small, max 10 students.

I was craving a routine before I arrived and this was the perfect place for me. I would go to the gym at 5.30am every morning, class from 8/8:30 till 1pm (there are breaks) and then the afternoon was mine to explore, I love walking so thats what I did. You have the weekends free so if you want to take mini getaways its definitely possible, they are also willing to take you on day trips to different areas around, like the local outside pool, dive to and walk in the mountain range, kayak on the lakes, trip to the jungle. I joined in with a basketball and football match and had a wonderful time. Many options available if you want it but its not focused, you can just relax and stay in the camp.

Its a very safe niebougherhood and everyone is beautiful and welcoming even if you don't speak the language. I didn't go out at night but as I was up early it didn't effect me, good Internet too. The camp also hosts Air B&B rooms so I met people from other parts of Ecuador and even a family visiting from China. Ms Betty has a large family and she is always having visitors which was lovely.

So if you are looking for a tranquil place, easy going, great company, good food then this place is for you. I am so grateful for my time here and I would recommend anyone who wants to assist the locals with learning English and have some down time to come here.

The family is so warm and welcoming. I had never been a teacher before and my spanish was very limited. I received great instruction on how to get to the village and the family was there to welcome me with open arms. I had set classes on set days with a sheet of different subjects they needed to learn, you have a lot of freedom on how you want to … read more teach your class (which can be overwhelming to begin with but its that classic, get the firat one out the way and you will relax into it). You are giving a generous amount of time to prep. Other volunteers/teachers are in the same boat or if they have been there a while, they will reasure and help you. I really enjoyed teaching, so much so that I have decided to continue in Ecuador. The accommodation is basic and I had to get used to communal living again and cold showers. The rooms are light and spacious with three beds in each. The kitchen is very small with a sink, fridge and a stove top so basic cooking. You are provided a breakfast every morning which was plentiful and tea and coffee. The town is 3 miles away, you can get to town by the bikes (provided) its not a bad walk, people offer to give you lifes and a tok-tok is like $8. Next door is a small shop, so if you need chips or a soda when its dark or you j8st dont want to do the ride into town this shop is very handy . I was luck with the other volunteers/teachers that where also there, we where all very different but it worked well and we supported each other as well as gave each other space when needed, I struggled at time with the free time, isolation, communal living but they pulled me through. The property also have a adequate pool and I went for 10 mile walk most days which was great for my sanity. I felt so safe in this area, everyone was so friendly and every Saturday we went into town for chicken, fries and ice cream or frozen yogurt with the other volunteers. I would recommend if you are looking for a real Columbia experience with the chance to give back with your english speaking abilities. Thank you again, I will always remember my time with you all ❤🙏

La familia es muy cálida y acogedora. Nunca antes había sido maestra y mi español era muy limitado. Recibí excelentes instrucciones sobre cómo llegar al pueblo y la familia estaba allí para recibirme con los brazos abiertos. Había establecido clases en días establecidos con una hoja de diferentes temas que necesitaban aprender, tienes mucha libertad sobre cómo quieres enseñar tu clase (lo que puede ser abrumador al principio, pero es así de clásico, saca el primero) el camino y te relajarás en él). Estás dando una generosa cantidad de tiempo para prepararte. Otros voluntarios/profesores están en el mismo barco o si han estado allí por un tiempo, te tranquilizarán y te ayudarán. Disfruté mucho enseñando, tanto que he decidido continuar en Ecuador. El alojamiento es básico y tuve que acostumbrarme de nuevo a la vida comunitaria ya las duchas frías. Las habitaciones son luminosas y espaciosas con tres camas en cada una. La cocina es muy pequeña con un fregadero, una nevera y una estufa, por lo que es una cocina básica. Te proporcionan un desayuno cada mañana que era abundante y té y café. El pueblo está a 3 millas de distancia, puedes llegar al pueblo en bicicleta (siempre y cuando) no sea una mala caminata, la gente se ofrece a darte vidas y un tok-tok cuesta como $8. Al lado hay una pequeña tienda, por lo que si necesita papas fritas o un refresco cuando está oscuro o simplemente no quiere hacer el viaje a la ciudad, esta tienda es muy útil. Tuve suerte con los otros voluntarios/maestros que también estaban allí, todos éramos muy diferentes pero funcionó bien y nos apoyamos mutuamente y nos dimos espacio cuando lo necesitábamos, luché con el tiempo libre, el aislamiento, la comunidad. viviendo pero me sacaron adelante. La propiedad también tiene una piscina adecuada y fui a caminar 10 millas la mayoría de los días, lo cual fue excelente para mi cordura. Me sentí tan segura en esta área, todos fueron muy amables y todos los sábados íbamos a la ciudad a comer pollo, papas fritas y helado o yogur helado con los otros voluntarios. Recomendaría si está buscando una experiencia real de Columbia con la oportunidad de retribuir con sus habilidades para hablar inglés. Gracias de nuevo, siempre recordaré mi tiempo con todos ustedes ❤🙏
