Hello/Bonjour/ Hola,

My name is Avery and I am from a small town on the north shore of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada. Being in nature brings me so much joy, exploring the outdoors, learning about plants and gardening. I love to hike, surf, play my guitar, practice yoga and just enjoy the little things in this life. I have experience as an outdoor guide, lodge cook, lodge worker, house/pet sitter, farm labourer and am motivated to tackle any task at hand. I surf on Lake Superior our sweet water sea here in Canada . The waves are a result of wind direction and strength and it is therefore quite inconsistent. I love surfing so much and am hoping to get to surf while I am in Costa Rica.

After my first solo backpacking trip I had an insatiable need to understand society and people further. I have been studying sociology for the last three years and will be entering my final semester in January. This desire to learn about people has shifted to encompass plants in the last few years. I have cultivated some knowledge of medicinal plants that surround my home (the boreal forest) and I am looking to further my medicinal plant knowledge as well as learn about permaculture and gardening as I'm learning how healing our nature is also healing ourselves.

I will be travelling to Costa Rica for 1 month starting February 2026 while in online school. I am hoping to surf and learn a little bit more Spanish and meet some incredible people in the process:)

I have worked in harvesting blueberries and strawberries as well as other farm jobs such as weeding, making jam and other blueberry/ strawberry products.

Have some woodworking and construction experience. I helped build a yurt last winter as a volunteer and have helped with projects at the lodge I worked for.

I have experience cooking for bigger groups of people ( up to 30) in a regular sized kitchen.
