  • Description

Hi! I'm Anja(she/her) and I am a dual Finnish -American citizen from Washington State in the United States. This summer I will be attending a Finnish language intensive at the University of Jyväskylä and then plan to travel to practice Finnish and to experience living in Finland to see if I would like to stay more long term to work or study! I have traveled a few times before, mostly in Europe, to visit family in the Netherlands, and lived and worked as a language teacher for a year in France during which I lived with a host family on the weekends and volunteered as a scout troop leader. I traveled to many different countries in Western Europe during school breaks. I am excited to start my travel journey with Workaway and can't wait to meet you!

A little bit about me: I love meeting new people, making connections and learning from others! I have been an environmental and social justice activist since high school and am always exploring how I can better live in connection and care with the earth and all its inhabitants. After returning from France, I took a break from studying to work as a library assistant, and in my free time, I love to dance, and learn new styles of dance. I also like to spend time in nature including hiking, swimming, and foraging for wild mushrooms and plants to cook and bake with! I enjoy playing music with others and learning new songs(I play the flute), as well as playing all kinds of board and word games! I am a huge book and movie person and would be delighted to chat about literature and film with you and share recommendations!

My skills and interests: I grew up and worked on a small rural vegetable farm, so I enjoy working outside in nature, and am used to garden and farm work, but also enjoy housework such as cooking and baking(I have experience cooking vegan and gluten free food, if you have dietary restrictions), spending time with kids and taking care of pets! I have experience working with kids and teaching English and most interested in a language exchange. I don't know much about animal farming or construction, but I would be excited to learn from someone willing to teach me!
