My overall experience at this lovely little hostel in Granada was really great! I had a very enjoyable time there and would definitely recommend it to other volunteers. The work itself is quite relaxed and manageable, which leaves you with plenty of time to explore the area. Granada is a beautiful and lively place with lots of things to do nearby, so it’s a perfect location if you like discovering new places during your free time. (MUST DO: Rent a kayak at the isletas de Granada on your own and explore the beautiful scenery!!!! it costs like 15 dollars for 2) The hosts, Estefania and her husband Gabriel, are both incredibly kind and welcoming people. They create a friendly atmosphere and make volunteers feel comfortable and appreciated. One of the things I really liked were the perks they offer to volunteers. For example, you get a free visit to Laguna de Apoyo including transportation, which is an amazing experience. They also offer 50% off the entrance fee for the Treehouse Party, which is a lot of fun and a great way to meet people. The hostel is also a very good place to practice and improve your Spanish. Some members of the staff don’t speak much English, so you naturally end up using Spanish in everyday situations, which is actually a great learning opportunity. If you decide to volunteer here, it’s good to know that you’ll often need to figure things out on your own. But if you’re someone who enjoys a bit of independence and trusts yourself, that can actually make the experience even more rewarding. Overall, it was a really positive experience for me and I’m glad I stayed there.

My first workaway experience was here and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The opportunities for ‘learning by doing’ are both relaxed, dynamic and interesting, and shared among the volunteers. I spent most of my time learning and perfecting my skills in pruning fruit trees, collecting branches, learning about permaculture, helping with meals, cleaning, picking flowers and feeding the animals. The accomodation is really nice, I had my own bedroom with french balcony doors facing the olive fields, with a private bathroom with a shower and compost toilet. What a dream waking up there! We made and ate all meals together, while having good conversations. I truly felt that I made good friends here. It was really fun that the host took us on trips, showed us different places and arranged dinner parties. I really felt that the host wanted us to have a good experience! We were many musicians here, and had some good jam-sessions together! We often gathered around the pool or the sauna or bonfires, and enjoyed the nice weather whenever we could. Thanks for having me, this will definitely not be my last stay here!

Angelika was with us for two weeks and it is amazing all the things she managed to do in such a short period of time. She helped me a lot with the raspberries and we renovated two walls in the house with lime and sand. Angelika is very organized and self motivated. She came with her own van and I really enjoyed our morning breakfast and nice conversations. In the afternoon she sometimes went cycling and i think she has seen more of the environment in two weeks than I in 6 years. It was great to spent time with Angelika and me and Roza already look forward to seeing her again in Mai.

Monica is a very good natured person and full of enthusiasm. She was always keen to help out but most importantly she got on really well with our mother – she was very kind and loving towards her and Mum was very fond of Monica. She helped out with the cooking and generally was very good company. She was with us for about a month and we would have been delighted if she could have stayed longer. We would happily recommend her to other hosts.

Rahul has created a beautiful green project near Khajuraho. He's a super kind person who instantly creates a positive energy, and the place is a peaceful oasis. I spoke with him about the horticulture project, sharing techniques to improve his project, such as mulching techniques or plant structures. I'd like to return to see how his project is progressing.

VINCENT was a great testament to his adaptability. He fit in very well with the other volunteers and worked with everyone with great ease. Respectful in his manner, attentive to space and time, he was a valuable and invaluable help with the more demanding tasks, whether in the garden or elsewhere. Responsible and mature, a reliable volunteer, highly recommended! When you return to Italy, Vincent, we look forward to seeing you again!

I had a short but great experience with Carla, Francesco and Oliver during the month of February where I did some babysitting for the family and taught Oliver English through play. From the start Carla and Francesco were warm and welcoming and were always there to support me with any queries I had regarding my role. Carla and Francesco are well travelled and between them speak many languages so communication was always easy. Oliver is a very intelligent and sweet boy and enjoys taking the lead during play. He loves imagination games/role play games and adores his lego. We had lots of fun together in the short time and he understands English very well. The house is bright, beautiful and always had some interesting music playing. It is situated in a picturesque part of Bologna and is well connected to the city centre. I would highly recommend the experience for anyone wanting to explore the area! Thank you Carla, Francesco and Oliver- I hope we can cross paths again :)

My stay with Katharina and her cool trio was wonderful. She is an exceptionally appreciative and generous person. From the very first moment, I felt at home and fell in love with my little accommodation. During her short absence, I was able to look after the house and animals, which worked out very well. Thank you so much for the lovely time, and I would love to come back again.

Kiel was excellent both as a workaway worker and also for company. Perfectly able to get on with a job without supervision and happy to be left alone with his own company. Eats like a horse as part of a fitness programme that requires a huge input of calories! Calories in and work out..a perfect arrangement. Best of luck to kiel wherever you travel to next.

Alexandre and Shivani stayed with us for about three weeks from the end of July to the beginning of August. Our apologies for the late feedback. They were a wonderful help during their stay and it was truly a pleasure to host them. Both are extremely friendly, polite, and thoughtful people, and they brought a very warm and positive energy to our home. They also have a lovely, relaxed French charm that made daily life together especially enjoyable. They helped with many different tasks such as gardening, cleaning, cutting wood, and assisting with organising and entering receipts for insurance documentation after a fire we had in the past. They were reliable, attentive, and always approached their tasks with care and a great attitude. They are also excellent cooks, and we enjoyed several delicious meals together. Living and working together felt very easy and pleasant. Their support meant a lot to us, especially at a time when Herbert was not feeling very well, and we truly appreciated their kindness and help. They also had a rental car, which allowed them to explore the area and enjoy the summer here. Thank you again, Alexandre and Shivani, for your support and the lovely time we shared. You are always very welcome to visit us again. Herbert, Janet & Kayla

The academy is doing great work teaching the kids - often beginners with not much English knowledge. Therefore it's very easy, even without being a native or even a teacher, but I recommend knowing at least a few words in Spanish to make the students feel less nervous. The tasks are mostly interacting & evaluating the students with occasional classes you actually do all by yourself by following the students book teaching them simple grammar, pronunciation and more. All the teachers are really nice and made it very easy for me to feel welcomed and help me with anything anytime. San Vicente is a small town offering all the necessities and its very easy and cheap to reach the next bigger cities Palín (45min), Escuintla (1,25h), Antigua (2,5h), Guatemala City (1,5h) by chicken bus on the days off (there's a lot of free time!). But I also recommend hiking the Pacaya volcano, which is just 15min away by tuktuk.

We had a wonderful time hosting Lynn and were very happy to have her with us. She brought a friendly, positive and respectful energy into our home and quickly became part of our daily rhythm. Lynn was always willing to help and approached every task with care and a great attitude. She helped with cleaning, gardening, weeding and cooking, and she was reliable and easy to work with. She travelled with her lovely and very friendly dog Mint, who settled in nicely and was a joy to have around. As Lynn was travelling by car, she could also explore the area independently, which worked very well. We enjoyed our conversations and the pleasant lunch times together. Lynn is a kind, respectful and easy person to have around. Sorry that our feedback comes a bit late. We can warmly recommend Lynn to any future host and she is always welcome back here. I had an excellent time on this Workaway. We visited Scotland in December which was magical. Gary and Olena were very communicative beforehand and during the stay, which made me feel confident about things (as it was my first workaway). The place we stayed in was beautiful, comfortable and clean. The trips around Scotland were so much fun and it was a great joy to meet people from around the world. Go with an open heart and be an active listener. Thanks for a lovely time!

SHANE is a very attentive, sensitive, respectful, and polite young man. He carried out his work with great attention to detail; he painted many windows, helped in the garden, cared for a dog and tiny kittens, and above all, took on a responsible role in cataloging and organizing ancient books. He's a very interesting volunteer because of his ability to listen and collaborate. We worked very well together because he was with us for a long time, and it was a very intense time. He's very reliable. Shane, we hope you can return to the monastery. We look forward to seeing you when it's possible. Best wishes for your studies!

Had the loveliest time in Pana and met the best people through this project volunteering at the club! Both the club and hostel are at the lakefront giving the best sunsets every evening with the sun going down behind 3 volcanos, which you can climb also. In general Panajachel is known, but not overly touristy and is the best place for various activities and to get to any place around the lake and even other places in Guatemala. The tasks can shift a bit from time to time, but for me it was a mix of bar shifts, promoting & event planning. I loved that it didn't feel like a job or there was a lot of pressure doing good, but rather felt like joining a family of electronic music lovers and having fun together mixing drinks, vibing to the music, finding ideas and more. If you're planning to go to Guatemala, you should definitely not miss out on this place! :)

I absolutely loved my time at this workaway - it felt like a home to me. All of the residents were very welcoming and warm from the start so I felt comfortable straight away. Communication is valued above all here, this openness was so refreshing to me as well as the work outside in the morning sun. No task given was too much to ask (I helped lay a wooden floor, chipped wood and swept the terrace among household tasks) and they allowed you to choose your work for the morning based on your energy. I will always appreciate the time I spent and the peace I found in this wonderful place. I'd love to come back one day to meet everyone again, because knowing them all is a joy.

Jossi and Einar stayed with us for a few days during the blood orange harvest, and it was a real pleasure to have them around. We shared some beautiful sunny winter days here in Sicily, picking oranges and enjoying the rhythm of the season together. Since we have animals ourselves, it was especially nice to see how easily they adapted to the place. They were very respectful and attentive to the other animals around, which we truly appreciated. They were both easygoing and pleasant company, and it was nice to share conversations and moments around the house and the farm. Jossi is an artist and share with us really nice pics from hear time with us, thanks!
