Amy has been a wonderful host. She entrusted us in housekeep her house and do some gardening here and there where was needed. She took care of us in every moment by bringing us to the forest and making us discovering the surrounding area. Her animals are all very sweet and there hasn't been any problem at all. The house is surrounded by forest and you'll be able to walk to the nearest town (Kuranda) in your free time.

My best workaway experience so far! Elizabeth is a very caring and attentive person. Tasks around the house are super easy and I was always able to finish them off quickly and effortlessly. House is located near the forest so you can go for a daily run. We had a trip to the local farmers market so I could meet the neighbours and Elizabeth also offered a trip to Salzburg and nearby mountains so I felt incredibly well entertained and looked after. Thank you Elizabeth for your kindness and good energy !

I had such a great time at Phonephets! I stayed there for about 1,5 weeks and loved working in the garden, playing with the children and having a lot of time for myself, too. When I was here there were a few more volunteers at Phonephets, so we had a great time together! If you have the chance to make a stop here, I would definetely recommend to do so! Thank you Phonephet for the great time!

If there were 6 stars - Riccardo is a 6 star workawayer! I can't say enough nice things about this guy. He was with us for a little over 2 months and it was fantastic!! From his willingness to jump into any project, be it yard work, painting, sanding, moving furniture up 3 flights of stairs, etc., he was always willing to jump in and help. Additionally, he kept us fed with wonderful Italian meals and we really enjoyed the time spent learning more about him and his adventures. I would wholeheartedly recommend Riccardo as a WorkAwayer. His presence will be missed.

Jays and Owen lived with my family in 6-8th Apr. 2026 to meet Mongolian traditional Ger home life and peaceful animal works. Our 788th hosting experience made memories by plogging with horse poops and training 2 young age horses. We want to meet again during my 1000th hosting experience festival,

Gina came with the understanding that one week trial period was all I desired to commit to. It was obvious pretty much right away that she was diligent, caring, thoughtful with a good work ethic and cared about doing a good job. Gina stayed two months and I asked her to consider returning when she left for a family wedding and a family christening. Gina is a joy to spend time with and I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed with her work or having as nice a person as Gina is be a WorkAway in their home.

I can say with confidence that my time working here was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life thus far. I spent nearly a month in Dunkirk working with this place, and it genuinely exceeded my expectations. I came into the experience motivated to serve but admittedly quite intimidated and unsure what to expect. However, the team of fellow volunteers and the leaders were incredibly welcoming and made me feel immediately at ease. The work is undoubtedly tough. You will be helping people who have experienced what many in the Western world would find unimaginable. However, while I came into the experience expecting that the work would be very heavy and serious, I was surprised to find that was not the case. Of course, there were certainly solemn moments, but I found that there was often an unexpected lightness to my days in Dunkirk and my interactions with the many lovely people I met. That's all to say, if you feel called to this opportunity and are a bit intimidated like I was, I want to emphasize that the reward of impactful service far exceeded the realization of my fears.

We had a wonderful couple of weeks staying with Donald and Winnie at their home. When we arrived their family gave us a very warm welcome . They showed a keen interest in learning about our cultural experiences from home in the UK and during our time travelling in Asia. The work was not strenuous and we were given space to complete tasks at our own pace. Donald was clear with what he wanted and communication was very simple. While we were there we built some wooden planters out of old pallets, helped with clearing of construction waste on site and some gardening. The home itself is in a quiet village near the main town, with tranquil views of the countryside and nearby mountain ranges. The traditional wooden house provided the perfect place to relax and work on our own things. We had many conversations with Donald and Winnie, learning about Kadazan culture, exchanging travel stories, and talking about life in Sabah and all the changes they had seen in their lifetime. This often occurred over breakfast at one of their favourite local spots, or whilst enjoying Donald’s ice cream special. They also took time to show us around, help with shopping and take us to the night market. We also had great fun cooking a traditional British summer BBQ for Donald and the workers he had on site at the time. And towards the end of our visit we were able to hang out with the Airbnb guests that were staying. If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful where you can contribute your skills, whilst getting to know a lovely local family , look no further! We hope to visit again in the future.

Tina stayed with us for one month. When she arrived, we were very busy preparing for a big event, but even in that situation, she worked hard and supported us in many ways. She is kind and sweet. What impressed me the most was her communication skills. When she arrived, we had more volunteers than usual, but she was able to talk with everyone and naturally connect with people. One thing I personally learned from her is the mindset of taking things easy. Whenever I felt stressed or worried, she would often say things like, “Take it slow” or “Don’t worry.” For some reason, when she said that, it really made me feel like everything would be okay. She is also very talented with languages and can speak five languages. She studied Japanese diligently every day, and we shared the joy of learning a new language together. Thank you so much for coming to our place. We look forward to seeing you again someday. Wishing you all the best on your journey!

Garnet stayed with us for about two weeks. He has a gentle and calm personality and always interacts with others in a kind and relaxed way. He also has a great sense of humor, and our daughter quickly grew very fond of him. During his stay, he was the only male volunteer, so he took on a lot of physically demanding tasks. He helped us cut bamboo and split it, and thanks to his efforts, our work progressed significantly. He is also very skilled at knitting. I personally would have loved to learn from him, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough time, which I slightly regret. Although it was a short stay, we are truly glad that he came. We would be very happy to see him again someday.

Shayda stayed with us for about two weeks. She is friendly, approachable, and has a bright and cheerful personality. She is currently studying to become a social worker and was taking online classes during her stay. Even while being busy with her assignments and lessons, she worked hard and contributed a lot to our place. One of the most memorable things was her work preparing bamboo for nagashi somen (a traditional Japanese summer activity). Her work was very careful and detailed, and thanks to her efforts, we were able to fully enjoy the experience! Although it was only a short two-week stay, we are truly glad we had the chance to meet her. We hope to see her again someday!

We spent one month with Audrey and the family on the beautiful land in Whangatau. We enjoyed working with mycelium, planting seeds, seedlings, and cuttings, weeding and pruning plants, harvesting dried herbs, helping out at the community garden, attending “Green Swap”, cooking, cleaning, watering, and all the things we could do to support the mission. It was an honor to work with and learn from Audrey. She taught us about the trees, plants, and more. Audrey is deep, authentic, and very connected to the spirit of the land and Earth. She is well traveled and we enjoyed hearing stories of her adventures - very inspiring. The community was supportive of us and our mission. We are grateful for the new experiences and friendships including the opportunity contribute our passions of photography, music, and cooking with appreciation. We also had the pleasure to explore the beauty of the area, biking, hiking, and swimming. Thank you, Audrey and the family for hosting us, teaching us, and sharing life together.

Ankie stayed with us for more than a month, longer than originally planned. She is an artist who works with woven plants. During her stay, we had a large event, and she created the entrance arch for it! Since her project began with gathering natural materials, it required a lot of time and effort, but she worked patiently and completed a truly beautiful piece. On the day of the event, she not only helped with general tasks but also hosted her own workshop for visitors. Many people took photos with the arch and joined her workshop, and her work brought so many smiles to the event. She is very cooperative and approaches any task with dedication. She also studied Japanese very diligently every day, and we were truly impressed by how much she improved during her stay. She loves having fun and sharing those moments with others. She often invited people to meals and reached out to include everyone, which made our time together even more enjoyable. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. We look forward to seeing you again someday!

Ashton and Alex are a lovely young couple who are easy to spend time with and work hard on all tasks. They spent almost two weeks with us and did a wide variety of jobs with enthusiasm, including tackling some monster gorse! They learnt fast and were happy to work independently, as well as being flexible dependent on weather conditions. They were very helpful, always punctual for arranged work times, respectful of our privacy and left their accommodation in perfect condition. We wish them all the best for their onward NZ adventures and definitely recommend them to you.
