Description
We are a vegetarian family who follow a raw-food lifestyle and work professionally with organic vegan products.
We are looking for one or two people, able to stay at least two weeks, to help us with:
Garden care (1,700 m²): mowing the lawn, tending and pruning fruit trees, general gardening jobs.
Upkeep of the swimming pool and the wood-fired wooden hot tub.
Pet care: feeding and looking after our three cats and our chickens.
Occasional projects: painting shutters, carrying out deep cleaning of the house, or other one-off renovation tasks.
We live just outside Nîmes, in Langlade in the south of France—about 40 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from Nîmes by car. We’re happy to teach you raw-food recipes and love sharing excellent meals together.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
We are looking for a vegetarian or vegan helper who holds a valid driver’s licence and can drive a manual-shift car to assist with the upkeep of our garden and house. We work professionally in the vegetarian and raw-food sector. Both short and long stays are possible. Over the past eight years we have welcomed more than 70 Workawayers from around the world.

Eric is the only person speaking fluently english, spanish and dutch. Therefore, the workawayers coming may involve themselves in trying to learn and speak french with all the members of the family.Accommodation
We can accommodate you in a private bedroom inside the house or, if you prefer, in spring or autumn, in a private caravan just next to the house—both with electricity and high-speed fiber-optic internet. We also have a comfortable yurt in the garden that can be used as an alternative living space.
What else ...
Here are the profiles we accept; please don’t waste your time (or ours) applying if you do not meet these requirements:
MANUAL-CAR DRIVING LICENCE—MANDATORY
VEGETARIAN or VEGAN
You may feel uncomfortable or frustrated with our mostly raw, vegan meals; people on a “standard” diet usually find it hard to adapt and don’t feel well here. Switching from a conventional diet to a mainly raw, plant-based one is too big a leap, and we don’t want everyone cooking separately. We buy the food and choose the menus together—this is not a flat-share fridge where each person keeps their own shelf.
PLEASE READ THESE 15 LINES before sending us a message:
Because of past unpleasant experiences, we do not host workawayers who fall into any of these categories:
Workawayers who have had, or currently have, psychiatric disorders
Workawayers who smoke or drink alcohol at home
Workawayers who are allergic to cats (we have three)
Workawayers who have no interest at all in learning at least the basics of French
That said, feel free to read our reviews and the presentation below:
Who we are & where we live
We’re looking for an open-minded vegetarian helper in the south of France. Our home is 40 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from Nîmes by car. The nearest train stations are Vergèze (12 minutes) and Nîmes (15 minutes on the other side of town). Within an hour you can reach Montpellier, Avignon, Arles, Uzès, Lyon or Aix-en-Provence; Marseille is 1 h 30 away.
Éric and Aurélie have run an online raw-organic food business for 17 years, importing superfoods from more than 15 countries (Spain, Thailand, Morocco, USA, Taiwan, etc.).
Between us we have six children, but only Zia (9) lives at home. Léane (18) lives in Montpellier and Cloé (20) in Nîmes. Éric’s three older children live elsewhere but may visit on some weekends. Zia was born at home, in water. We both work from home full-time.
Food & lifestyle
We are vegetarian, largely vegan and raw-food enthusiasts. There is no meat, fish, alcohol, cow’s milk or gluten in the house. Occasionally we have a little cheese or our own chickens’ eggs—if we can find them in the garden!
Instead, you’ll discover plenty of alternative foods: daily sprouts and seaweeds, fresh “milks” made from sprouted almonds or soaked tigernuts, dehydrated raw crackers, raw vegan sushi, sprouted-sunflower pâtés, raw birthday cakes…
What we expect
We need a non-smoking vegetarian (or vegan) person who is used to family life, curious to learn and happy to help with tasks such as gardening and small household jobs like painting. Experience with children/teens is a plus. We are open to other cultures and love teaching and sharing. Éric, of Dutch background, has travelled to 25 countries; Aurélie, with a strong artistic background (former model and fashion-brand founder), has also travelled widely and spent three years in Algeria. Mutual enrichment through understanding each other is important to us.
Facilities & surroundings
Composting dry toilets.
In the garden: a Nordic wood-fired hot tub and a lovely pool, usable year-round (we even take cold dips in winter!).
Climate: June–September can be very hot—Nîmes is the hottest city in France, and we’re always a degree warmer. The house stays cool during peak heat. It’s also mosquito season… but also peak fruit season, as our region is a major fruit producer.
Location: Super-quiet neighbourhood of large-garden houses. Our 1,700 m² plot is full of fruit trees, with its own borehole for fresh water. Nîmes city centre is 15–20 min by car or bus. Just 200 m away begins the garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland) with endless hikes, and the village is crossed by a greenway (old railway turned cycle path).
Internet & phone: high-speed fibre. Wi-Fi is turned off at night for low EMF while sleeping. No mobile signal inside, but WhatsApp/Telegram work fine; you can get phone signal in some parts of the garden.
How to apply
We suggest a first video chat via WhatsApp or Telegram. Please include your phone number in your first message; we’ll send ours in return.
Read our former workawayers’ comments to see if what we offer suits you. Everyone who booked too far ahead eventually cancelled, so we don’t accept applications more than six weeks in advance. There’s no point asking in winter for the summer, and vice versa!
A bientôt !
