We stayed 10 days with Ömür, Ayla, their sons (Deniz and Kuzey) and all their animals (we loved the puppies !!). It was a fantastic experience to help Ömür gardening, planting lavandas, taking care of olive trees (burning old olive branches, spreeding organic fertilizers). We also spend a great time during breakfast and dinners with all the super food made by Ayla (bass fish, pohaça, börek) and talking a lot after dinner about cultures, way of lifes... We also went to Pergama with Ömür and Ayla to visit the ancient site. It was only great memories !!

We hosted Pol for about 2 weeks in March and it was a great pleasure. A very polite, smiley, helpful guy, initially a bit shy but it was nice to be able to discover him over the days! With the rest of the group (in which he integrated very well!!) we cleaned terraces, moved and cut wood, prepared the vegetable garden to plant the new summer vegetables and he has always also helped with the daily tasks after the meals. In addition to the work, it was very nice to to walk and climb together to discover our Liguria and to know a bit more about each other lives. Gracias Pol, Hasta pronto!!

This was a very good experience! Living at a monastery for 2 weeks is something I never thought I would do, and probably won't have the opportunity to do again. The communication is clear, the tasks are quite straight forward for most of them, not very long during the day so you have plenty of time to explore the monastery, the museum... They provide the dorm, 3 meals a day (and the food is VERY GOOD), plenty of snacks. Thank you for this experience!

I'm so grateful I got to spend two months with this amazing family, love them so much!! I had a great time with them all. Kate is an incredible person, Lila is so silly and funny, Sacha is brilliant ;) AND the dogs are the cutest, Chapo and Rosie are completely different so you need to be good with dogs but they were so great. Plans changed a few times but Kate made sure I felt comfortable and we always found the way to make it work for everyone. Highly appreciated. I got to live in SF, Napa, Novato... I need to go back to keep exploring CA!😜 Overall it was a dream experience and I cannot recommend this family enough!! Feel free to reach out if you are considering staying with them :)

My stay with Melis, Mustafa, Kenan y Kuzey in Antalya was originally meant to be just two weeks, but due to the situation in the Middle East, I wasn’t able to travel as planned. They were incredibly understanding and kindly let me stay until I could sort out my flight, extending my time with them to about a month. I helped out with daily tasks around the house, and even though I’m not the best cook, they were always patient and supportive. There were moments when we faced a bit of a language barrier, but with patience, we always managed to understand each other. At night, I had to work online, and they fully respected that. Whenever I was able to join them, I did. I’m truly grateful for their flexibility, kindness, and for making me feel so welcome during such an uncertain time. (Melis, you are such a hardworking person, and I truly admire you. Thanks to you, I learned how to prepare Turkish tea and fish) :) Anyway I'm sorry if you expected more from me, I'm not a big chef :(

My stay was fantastic and definitely highly recommended. After spending three weeks among the plants and with the chickens, I honestly didn’t want to go back home. Johannes’ place felt very pleasant and like a second home. This thanks to a certain sense of calmness, peace and freedom. It was truly enjoyable to be on the land and to work in the garden. I not only gained energy from Johannes, the dog and nature, but also from the work itself. Since I was there during the first three weeks of March, the work mainly consisted of repotting plants. This had a meditative effect, and after a while it brought me a sense of calm. Johannes himself is a very good and caring host. I would describe him as an energetic person with a wonderful passion for nature and his work. During my stay, Johannes generously shared his knowledge about plants, gardening, off-grid living in Portugal, raising chickens and his daily life. I also got to hear many interesting stories about his adventures and I got to join him here and there on trips to markets and supply runs. This I highly appreciated. Additionally, I was able to connect with other people through Johannes. He is very social and interacts with many people, which meant there was plenty of contact beyond the boundaries of his land. For example, we were invited by the neighbors, I met interesting people at the market and I was able to experience authentic connections with Portugal and its locals. This made the cultural exchange even more meaningful and took it to a higher level. I had my own spot in the bus just outside the property. Having this personal space allowed me to retreat whenever I felt the need. The bus was a comfortable place with a lovely bed and lots of space. In the mornings, you’d wake up to the sound of birds and sunlight streaming through the windows. All in all, I’m very happy I went. I'm thankful that I was able to experience so much, that I got to know Johannes and that I got to see how someone can transform a piece of land into such a beautiful paradise. I will definitely come back one day! (o^v^o)

this has been one of my best traveling experiences ever. it was my first workaway and i couldn't imagine nothing better. the host family is super welcoming and nice. the space is beautiful and super close to an amazing climbing spot. the work is structured and well explained, since Camilla takes care of working along all the workawayers and show them around. i also think she has an amazing instinct regarding the selection of the people: we had such an amazing and coherent group of people that made the experience truly amazing. i can't suggest this experience enough, if you are looking for some handy work, lot of laughs, nice people and amazing food this is the place for you. thank you Cami, Will, Claudia and Marco for your hospitality, wish to see you soon.

Hello, my name is Paul, I stayed for one month helping at the university, and this experience truly changed my life. I first came to visit some students I had met while volunteering in a nearby village. When I arrived at the university, I received such a warm welcome that I decided to delay my departure from Cambodia and stay longer. I met so many kind and curious students, eager to learn about the world despite living in the Khmer countryside. They welcomed me warmly to their beautiful campus, surrounded by rice fields. They shared their culture, brought me to local events, spent time with me, and were always interested in learning about my part of the world. In return, I helped them improve their English and shared some of the subjects I had studied at university. When I arrived, the staff helped me decide what to teach based on my knowledge—so don’t worry, the level is very manageable! After 13 months of traveling in Asia, I can honestly say that my time in Cambodia was the most joyful, intense, and meaningful experience of my journey. It was a perfect exchange. The students and staff were incredibly kind to me. I even spent two weeks helping them set up a Workaway profile because they truly deserve more volunteers. I think it is important to spend at least two to three weeks there to get to know the students and to give them proper teaching. To organize the volunteering, you will be in contact with Sambo, the vice rector of the school (he's a kind person). He’s not completely fluent in English/technologies, but everything works out smoothly with a bit of flexibility ;) I sincerely hope others will have the chance to experience something as special as this. I truly truly recommend this place!

Dolev is an amazing person—super helpful, always positive, and a pleasure to have around. He really enjoyed surfing and brought great energy to our place. On top of that, he’s genuinely funny and incredibly easy to live with, which made the whole experience even better. I’d highly recommend him to any host looking for a reliable and fun volunteer!

We had a wonderful time at the sanctuary. The place is truely a little paradise and an inspiring example of what a more compassionate world would look like. The work flow was very doable, not intense. And it leaves enough time to enjoy the company of the animals, give them some extra love and attention, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Just by walking from the quinta you can access beautiful trails, waterfalls, small villages with cafés. Big thanks to Madalena, Ivone and Joep for being kind, generous hosts, we had an unforgettable experience! Already missing all the animals :')

Seran siempre bienvenidos! Un gran abrazo a los 2

We hosted Dodi for about two weeks in March and it was a super positive experience! He immediately integrated with our family and the other volunteers and we had beautiful convivial days together. Edoardo is a very nice guy, clear in his communication and very active in the jobs that have been proposed. He helped clean the terraces and cut wood, in the daily chores of the house during meals and then in the garden to prepare the land (lots of manure wheelbarrows haha) and plant the new summer vegetables. He is a very smiling person and always trying to find a common ground or laugh about something, very important skills when you are in a group! Super recommended, can't wait to meet Dodi again!! Grazie!!

I spent five valuable weeks with Pedro and Lucre, and the other volunteers who stayed at the same time. They had a wonderful place to park in the garden with my motorhome that could connect to the electricity. I learnt a lot of Spanish while I was there, as they are very used to teach Spanish vocabulary and grammar to workawayers who stay. I also learnt many delicious recipies from Lucre, and she is very considerate of people's food preferences. The work in the garden was enjoyable, fair and I learnt a lot about the principles Pedro has to create such a beautiful garden. It can be tricky to do the tasks in the way he does, and he gives a lot of instructions. Pedro and Lucre took me along with another workawayer to attend a local event, meet their friends in the next town, and to play bingo with them. This was really fun. On a free day Pedro also arranged a hiking trip to some magnificent caves in the area, and taught me a lot about the history and plants there. The surrounding area is perfect for a workaway: it is close to a small town where you can go to a market and other shops, you can easily get to bigger cities such as Valencia and Alicante, and there are nice running, hiking and biking routes. So if you're looking for a place to learn Spanish and to learn about gardening, this is definitely the place!

Alba Maria, I have to say—working with you is an absolute game-changer. You bring such a rare combination of creativity and precision to the table. I had the pleasure and the privilege of volunteering here for one month, and it was an incredibly meaningful and enriching experience for me. From the very first day, I was introduced on the ground to the different projects and activities I could be involved in. The team is very open to ideas and suggestions, which made me feel immediately included and valued. One of the projects that impressed me the most was the program supporting people living with HIV. They organize regular community meetings in different villages to raise awareness, provide education, and create a safe space for discussion and mutual support. HIV is still a very real issue in the area, and this project allows you to truly understand its impact. We had the chance to listen to people’s experiences and offer both practical and emotional support, which was very powerful. We also visited the Children Corner, a place where a group of dedicated young women support children from challenging backgrounds who struggle to attend school. They provide basic education, teach practical skills, organize activities, and offer a safe environment where children can simply be children. They also try to address family-related issues, working with parents and sometimes local authorities. Being part of this project was deeply touching and eye-opening. Another key project, and the one we dedicated most of our time to, was the pre-school. During the first days, we visited this kindergarten and quickly realized that the structure was not suitable in terms of safety, functionality, and overall environment. The building also included a small clinic, mainly serving pregnant women, people living with HIV, and children. Together, we decided to significantly improve this project. A crucial aspect—something they consistently prioritize—was the involvement of the local community and collaboration with local workers. By combining our skills with those of the community, we were able to transform both the pre-school and the clinic into much more appropriate and welcoming spaces. It was physically demanding work, but incredibly rewarding. We could clearly see how even small improvements had a real impact on the children’s lives and, more broadly, on the entire community. What truly stands out about this place is the motivation and dedication of Anderson and the whole team. They are open-minded, hardworking, and genuinely committed to improving their community step by step. Anderson, in particular, is a very capable and organized person who truly knows what he is doing, and his leadership plays a key role in making the projects effective and sustainable. Personally, I feel I gave my best during this experience, but I received even more in return. I learned so much from the people I met—the sense of community, the willingness to help others without expecting anything back, the ability to appreciate simple things, and to smile in every situation. This experience has truly changed me, and I would recommend it to anyone who feels ready. On a practical note, I stayed at Anderson’s home with his family. They are wonderful people—kind, welcoming, and respectful of personal space. Of course, living conditions are not the same as in Western countries, so it requires some adaptability. However, I believe this is an essential part of the experience and a great way to integrate into the local community. The village is beautiful, especially because of the people who live there. If you are open and respectful, you will feel more than welcome. During the week, you are expected to work and be proactive, while also adapting to the local rhythm and culture. Weekends are free and offer great opportunities to explore Malawi. Despite being a relatively small country, there are many places worth visiting, such as the Zomba Plateau, Majete Wildlife Reserve for a safari, or the city of Blantyre. I traveled using local transport, which I would definitely recommend—it’s safe with the right precautions and gives you a much deeper understanding of the country. If you decide to volunteer with them, I would strongly encourage you to be open-minded but also proactive. The organization is constantly evolving and values feedback from volunteers. One suggestion I shared was to create a clearer list of tasks for each project—even simple ones—so that new volunteers can quickly understand how to contribute in a practical way and avoid wasting time, which can happen at times as the pace and working style are different and may feel a bit less efficient at times, but is something they are actively working to improve. Volunteering here allows you to give a lot, but also to receive even more. You will return home with unforgettable memories, valuable lessons, and, like me, you might leave a piece of your heart in Chikwawa. I am deeply grateful to the entire team and the community for this experience.
