Ben is an excellent Workawayer, getting into many aspects of our life on our orchard. From plum picking, to bamboo cutting, to weed pulling, to general gardening, he was adept at it all. He even got involved in our local community festival as a volunteer traffic marshal. Nothing was too much trouble. He had no trouble coping with all our comings and goings over the time he was here. Oh and he’s a pretty sharp Bananagrammer! We can thoroughly recommend him to other hosts. You will not be disappointed in his work ethic.

Balint stayed with us for three weeks and it was a really pleasant experience to host him. He integrated easily into the rhythm of the place and was always respectful, calm, and easy to have around. He helped with a variety of outdoor tasks and approached everything with a good attitude and willingness to learn. Whether working independently or together with others, he was reliable and steady. Balint was a positive presence here. All the best on your next adventures, Balint!

Lorena and Marvin were lovely to have with us. Communication about work before and during their stay was timely and clear, and our casual conversations were enjoyable. We laughed a lot, and started a new tradition of exchanging idioms from our languages! This will be a fun addition to our future Workaway experiences. We fell into an easy rhythm in the house together, Lorena and Marvin always tidied up after themselves and kept in touch about schedules. They looked after our pets for a few days while we were out of town and sent updates and pictures which helped us be at ease. They did a variety of tasks for us and were open to all of it; very versatile and completed everything we hoped for. We genuinely enjoyed their company and would welcome them back anytime.

Well Stefan has many skills and has an atitude of willing to try anything you throw at him. He is good company, energetic and very capable with a wide variety of skills. While he was on our farm we did building, sheep work and gardening. He was enthusiastic about all of these jobs. We would have him stay again without hesitation.

Louis is a very kind and helpful guy, respectful of the house rules, cheerful, and easygoing. Its been a pleasure having you as a volunteer, and I hope you can come back and visit us sometime. If youre going to teach your friends and family how to make sopaipillas, Id be delighted to help you with a video call, so they can enjoy them in Belgium 😁. I hope you have a wonderful trip!🤗🤗

Words can't fully describe my experience with Olivia. Workaway is not just a volunteer work but also a bridge to make genuine and authentic connections. Olivia went above and beyond. She adapted very fast with my dogs and she embraced the Puerto Rican experience with me. We shared meals, workouts, practiced Spanish through poetry and music, went to the beach and rainforest, and she even gifted me a beautiful dress to go out together. We became very good friends. ¡Gracias Liv! 💕

I always wanted to do something like this in Africa, and honestly the whole experience was way better than expected. I stayed with Boniface and his lovely family, and from day 1 I really felt like home. I loved the accomodation( be prepared that is very different from any European standard), but for me this kind of simplicity was so relaxing. Grace and Boniface always made sure the have a well enough meal, and I could always ask them about anything. :) Unfortunately the doctors were striking in that 3 weeks I spent there, so I could not visit the hospital(I will hopefully do that next year when I am back). I had the opportunity to be in the public and private school, and to teach the older ones at the baking course as well as spend time with the kids in the community and help with the weekend food bank. Honestly I've never even thought that I would fell in love so easily with a place and the people. This place and experience stole a piece of my heart forever.

Dear Katharina, Thank you so much for your warm feedback – it truly touched my heart. It was a joy to be with you as a Workaway volunteer and to be part of your everyday life for a while. Im also missing you💗 I felt welcome and comfortable in your home from the beginning. We shared many good and meaningful moments – conversations, meals, and everyday life together. It was lovely to exchange and receive new food ideas, and I’m so happy that my treatments were helpful for you. Even though my own child wasn’t with me, it was very valuable to share thoughts about motherhood and womanhood with you. It felt like we had a natural and genuine connection. The tasks were clear, and I really appreciated that you trusted me. It was truly a pleasure to help – I would have happily done even more at times. The cats brought their own fun energy to the days, and your home close to nature is such a peaceful place. Your daughter is such a sweet and bright girl – and her language skills are truly impressive. I also fondly remember our lovely trip to Frigiliana and want to thank you for showing me places of there 🥰 Thank you for this experience. I hope to visit again one day – maybe next time with my own child. 🥰🌿 Warmly, Tuula 💛

Staying with Angelika and Constantyn was a truly special experience for us and as it was our first Workaway stay, we honestly could not have wished for better hosts. They definitely set the bar very high for any future Workaway experiences. 😉 From the very beginning, they made us feel welcome and included in their daily life. They are very generous and always made sure we felt comfortable and well taken care of. The tasks were clear and fair, and we always felt appreciated for our help. What made this stay so meaningful was not only the work, but the time we spent together – cooking, talking and sharing stories. They are incredibly kind, intelligent and open-minded people, and we learned a lot from our conversations. They also made an effort to let us experience the local culture and included us in activities, which made our time there even more special. But the real stars of our stay were definitely the animals. They are all very sweet and quickly stole our hearts. We took our responsibility of providing their daily cuddles very seriously, making sure that it was always evenly distributed. 😌 We are very grateful for everything they shared with us and for the warmth they brought into our first Workaway experience. We wish them ALL the best and are already very much looking forward to seeing them again. ❤️

We had a wonderful experience hosting Stéfanie at our home. From the moment she arrived, she integrated naturally into our family life and quickly understood our routine and needs. Arriving in a French-speaking family could have been a challenge, but despite the language barrier with the children and me, everything went perfectly. Her presence was a real gift for us, allowing us to hear and practice English while sharing lovely moments together. Stéphanie helped us with daily household tasks, played with the children, and always showed initiative whenever something needed to be done. She is calm, positive, and brings a wonderful energy to the home. We especially appreciated her autonomy, her thoughtful initiatives when we were busy, and the care she put into everything she did. Stéfanie is also an excellent cook. She introduced us to delicious dishes from her home country as well as other recipes, and this cultural sharing was truly wonderful. We always enjoyed the meals, and the children loved the amazing snacks she prepared for them. Talking with her was also very enriching: Stéfanie has extensive travel experience, which makes conversations really exciting. She took us on a journey through her experiences and her beautiful vision of the world, and we greatly appreciated these shared moments. Stéfanie went above and beyond our expectations, providing invaluable help that greatly eased our daily life. On top of that, the cultural exchange we experienced with her exceeded everything we could have hoped for from a Workaway stay. Her presence was a true joy for our family, and any future host family will be extremely lucky to welcome her. Thank you again, Stéfanie, for your help and your presence with us. You will always be welcome!

I had the pleasure of spending two weeks with Tory, helping out on her beautiful homestead. Tory and her family are extremely warm and welcoming, and it was a privilege to stay with them and get to know them. Tory is an incredible chef, often using produce grown on her land to provide delicious meals, and breakfast was the best porridge I’ve ever had! The work was mostly gardening, removing blackberry bramble from different areas of the land or weeding the vegetable patch. There were also indoor tasks like emptying seed pods and domestic tasks. Tory was extremely understanding and careful not to overwork us; some days it was too hot so we would work in the cool evenings instead. I will look back on my time with Tory and her family extremely fondly, including some great trampoline fun with her boys, chatting about New Zealand and it’s flora and fauna, and endless fetch with the adorable Juni. Thank you for a wonderful experience ☺️

Maxence is an amazing person! From the moment he arrived to our home he was a very delightful person to spend time with. He was always willing to help with a smile on his face and eager to chat and play with our son, even taught him some really cool football tricks! If he reaches out to you, do not hesitate to welcome him to your project as he certainly will excel in it! Furthermore, he is such an easy person to get along with; which made his stay a truly enjoyable experience!

Baptiste is the kind of volunteer every host hopes for — calm, respectful, and genuinely helpful. He may be quiet, but he works with intention and focus. He was consistently productive and always ready to take on whatever task we needed done, without hesitation. He integrated smoothly into our rhythm here and required very little oversight. We’re grateful for his contribution and would absolutely recommend him to other hosts and welcome him back.

Had a great experience volunteering with Shaun. Regarding his word, he is extremely dedicated and passionate artist and worker. In terms of interpersonal relations, he is very considerate, polite, welcoming and helpful. He was a pleasure to volunteer for, sharing his knowledge and life experience. Whenever he has time, it is good to spend it together to get to know him more as a person and an artist, don’t miss this opportunity. All the pets are great and have different personalities, so there will easily be a favourite for each time of person. One of the nicest volunteering experiences with lots of free time, good nature, healthy food and wonderful company.

I had an incredible week! I learned so many new things and gained truly valuable experience. I worked around 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, which gave me plenty of time to explore the surroundings and enjoy activities in the area. It was a perfect balance between work and free time. I worked at the reception, handling check-ins, accommodation bookings, activity reservations, and answering guests’ questions. I also prepared breakfast with my amazing teammate Lisbeth in a warm and friendly atmosphere. We cleaned and prepared the rooms together as well, always in a good mood. I got along very well with the other volunteers, the atmosphere was great and very supportive. Whenever we had questions, there was always someone ready to help. The week went by so fast, too fast! The manager, Elvia, was attentive, understanding, and flexible with our schedules. I truly recommend this experience. It was both enriching and enjoyable.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and honest feedback. First of all, I truly appreciate the amazing support you gave us despite the many challenges. Your patience, flexibility, and positive attitude meant a lot to us and to our students. Yes, sometimes the workload appears less structured, especially when we have more than five volunteers at the same time. This is partly beyond my control, as I try to give opportunities to many volunteers. However, occasionally some volunteers change their plans after arriving in Sri Lanka, which makes scheduling more complicated. Another important factor is that many homestay families strongly hope to host volunteer teachers, as our students are spread across three centers while we currently have only three staff members. Without a dedicated manager, all of us are deeply involved in teaching, which sometimes makes coordination challenging. However, we are actively thinking about starting fundraising initiatives soon so that we can appoint an office manager to better organize classes and volunteer coordination in the future. Despite these challenges, I am very happy that you connected so warmly with the families and students and that you enjoyed creating the drama project — that made a real impact. Your flexibility and “go with the flow” attitude truly reflect the spirit needed in our environment. You will always be warmly welcome back. Thank you again for your kindness and support. Warm regards,
