    Description

    Hello Workawayers!
Thank you for taking your time to read about my project .

I'm Simon, co-founder of a social innovation project based in Medellín, Colombia.
The vision is to create freedom of movement for people with disabilities through our electric devices that attach to manual wheelchairs. Other than that we're working on creating a accessibility map, making it easier to move around the city in a wheelchair.
    It's more than a device — it’s a movement.

We have 10 locally paid staff members and still growing! Our work is accessibility, design, community, and impact. We collaborate with universities, public institutions, and NGOs to promote inclusive mobility, create educational experiences, and empower individuals to live more independently.

We are interested to collaborate with creative, curious, and motivated people — whether it’s through design, media, mechanics, social media, marketing, UX, storytelling or just your passion for helping others and creating social impact.

Every day is different, from marketing ideas to hosting tours and events and much more.

Come help us rethink mobility, grow our movement, and build a more inclusive society!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange is part of our everyday life. We’re based in Medellín, one of the most vibrant, creative, and welcoming cities in Latin America — and we love sharing that energy with people from around the world.

You’ll be working closely with a team of local designers, engineers, artists, social changemakers, and people from the community.
We often have team lunches, work from parks or cafés, community events, and tours in the city — and you’re always welcome to join in.

    We can share:
    - Spanish language practice and a lot of Colombian slang :D
    - Knowledge about social entrepreneurship, design, accessibility and more
    - A look into what it means to build a social impact project from scratch

In return, we love to learn from your perspective, culture, skills and ideas — whether it’s how you think, how you see the world, or how you tell a story.

We are looking forward to hear from you!
    Best regards,
    Simon

    Help

We’re a small team which means you’ll be doing meaningful, real work from day one. This also means you will have a lot of independence so we are looking for people that have professional experience in fields such as engineering, photography/videography, NGO management and app development (specifically mapping).

We are looking for people that can stay with us for at least 2-3 months. The longer the better!

One of the ways you can have the biggest impact with us is through fundraising, specifically though our ‘adopt a 2G’ program.

    Fundraising: Adopt a 2G program <3

This program works to match a volunteer with a wheelchair user in Medellin Colombia who does not have the means to afford one of our electric assistive devices. The idea is to become a friend, learn about their story and their difficulties with accessibility and help to raise the money to provide them with a device. You will work as a team with your ‘2G’ and their family, organising events, making a gofundme and creating real impact.

Your weeks would look like meeting the families of these community members, having coffee with them and understanding their stories, what led then to be in a wheelchair, how much autonomy they have, creating a fundraising page and spreading the word! This could look like going to community events, language exchanges, talking to family and friends and making engaging content. You can make it as fun and exiting as you want! Before you know it they will feel like a true friend <3

Other ways you can get involved:

    App development:
    - App development experience (web or mobile) with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks; interest in building map-based features
    - Mapping & geospatial basics: working with Mapbox / Google Maps / Leaflet, GeoJSON, markers, routes, and accessibility-focused UX

    Social media:
    - Create fun and engaging content to help improve our visibility
    - Share the inspiring stories of those in the 2G community and think of new ways to engage people from all over the world with this project

    Community building:
    - Creating inclusive events for the 2G community, e.g. peoptry workshops, yoga classes, etc.
    - Connecting with tourists to come and experience the inclusive tours we run
    - Join us at events and tours to connect with the community (a good level of Spanish helps)

We are looking forward to welcoming you into the team! :)

    Accommodation

You can be staying in a cozy, clean apartment 1km away from the office in El Poblado, Medellín shared with 4 other roommates. The apartment is about 125 square meters, with everything you need to feel at home:

    - Kitchen and big living room
    - Clean bathroom
    - Washing machine
    - An avocado tree, lime tree, and banana tree in the backyard

The apartment is part of a small, relaxed building.
The neighbors are mostly young professionals and students — a great environment to meet people, chat, and feel part of the Medellín vibe.

Also there is a supermarket and shopping center 50m away!
It’s a safe and peaceful place, perfect for people who enjoy both collaboration and independence.
