    Description

HELLO!! We, Cami and Iain, moved to Portugal 5 years ago on a whim, spending all our long-saved travelling money to buy this piece of land with 200 dead blackened trees, a burned out Toyota, and a ruin with four walls and not much else. Today the place is transformed - we've built what we consider to be an awesome life here, we have a beautiful house with a balcony that has THE BEST views, a community of like-minded people, and enough free time to enjoy ourselves and get creative.

We are an outgoing British couple in our thirties, living on a small holding in the hills of rural Portugal with our 1 year old Reuben. We get hyped up by working through our to do list and we love taking the piss out of each other in good old fashioned British style. We love to chat, cook vegetarian delights, dance to old school reggae tunes, relax round the campfire and play the odd excitable game of Dobble. If we sound like your cuppa tea please get in touch!

Note we welcome people of all backgrounds, that includes ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability. This means we expect our guests to be open-minded and treat everyone here with respect :)

We will show you around the area and introduce you to our neighbours. You will learn about the amazing quality of life out here and how affordable land is. Many people visit the area and end up buying their own little piece of this lovely place!

Our smallholding is set in a stunning valley full of historical ruins, olive groves and regenerating land.

In our village there are all the usual amenities including a ‘padaria’ serving the best pastel de nata around. We have a load of AMAZING river beaches for swimming and spending a relaxed day. If you prefer to stay on the land, we have a tiny swimming pool, endless games, a hammock and a terrace for chilling.

If you like to hike, we can show you the best places to go, including the Serra de Estrella mountain range which is on our doorstep.

  • Help

    Help

We're looking for a couple or two friends to join us on our quinta this autumn.

The work can be HARD and the weather can be HOT so we need people with the enthusiasm, attitude and stamina to get stuck in.

We normally have 1-2 projects on the go at any one time. Jobs include food garden creation, building a bespoke oak staircase for the house, designing and building the landscaped area around the house, collecting and chopping firewood and mulch, painting/decorating our new balcony, weeding around newly-planted shrubs, tree management and strimming.

We'll work out a plan for what you'll get involved in - depending on your background and interests!

We promise you will NEVER be bored and there's always something to get stuck into.

    Accommodation

You'll be staying in our cosy caravan, across the way from the main house (20 meters or so), which has a heater and cooking facilities, and a nice deck for watching the sunset. We have a composting toilet & hot shower for you guys, but it is in the open i.e. great views but a cold butt.

You’ll have access to our house for shared meals, laundry and SOCIALISING FUN TIMES.

The land is yours to explore and enjoy - 1.2 hectares of granite wall-enclosed terraces with olive trees, fruit trees, dipping ponds and a load of delightful spots for lounging in the sun.

    What else ...

The transport here is limited, so it is best to have a car to get around to everything in the area. However, our village is a 15 minute walk from our house, so if you are up for staying local whilst you’re here (just mountain walks, river beaches and relaxing on our land), you can get by without a car.
