    Description

I am a aquatic ecologist who has fortunately been working out of our coastal rainforest property for 36 years. Now retired, and driven by strong curiosity, I have recently been developing long-term data sets on the animal life in the forest that surrounds our home, plus on tropical marine fish that are steadily increasing in numbers under the influence of climate change at the nearby very beautiful Seal Rocks area. This help is self-funded/volunteer-based with the resulting data shared on my website, passed onto relevant researchers and/or media groups, and in time ,will be published scientific journals.

Learning how some Australian ecosystems work through the eyes of an Australian researcher. For me, learning the delightful details of how people live in intriguing countries.

Given we are surrounded by forest, raking up leaves to reduce bush fire risk is always needed. We have a large vegetable garden at times needing attention which has been enclosed to keep out our friends the wallabies, possums, parrots and native bush turkeys. Bush regeneration is another activity as well as assisting in ecological surveys of local aquatic environments when investigations are underway. Cooking is always greatly appreciated, especially when two people visit.

    Accommodation

You will be embedded in nature and it is a very quiet location (except for birds calling) - this is NOT the place for those who primarily get their joy from city excitement; more a place for meditation. Wifi of course available (although data is not unlimited). You will stay in a resort standard cabin adjacent to the house and there is a 15m swimming pool for use.

Considerable independence may be required depending on my workload. Mostly vegetarian foods. My cooking ability is quite limited so good cooks are VERY welcome! Note if two people, it is conditional that helping hours include meal preparation .

We collect rainwater, so in dry times, showers need to be short.

For those more generous, connecting and thoughtful helpers, we try to get to the beach on a daily basis - some fantastic coastal scenery! If conditions permit, i.e. small waves and clear ocean waters, some amazing snorkeling - turtles, grey nurse sharks and `flocks` of 100s of rays, if lucky. Surfing also possible.
