    Description

This wonderful animal shelter is dedicated to rescuing and caring for abused, abandoned and sick animals. We offer neglected or injured strays a safe and loving home and ensure that they receive the care and attention they deserve.

Keith currently lives with an average of 60-130 dogs at the shelter. He has dedicated his life to his dogs.
Unlike traditional animal shelters, we can say that our dogs live there in packs and we do not keep dogs in cages :-) We believe that they actually prefer to live together in groups, with each group having its own size. This is very important because it has a positive effect on their stress levels and helps them to socialise and feel at home.

We make sure the dogs are well cared for, with regular check-ups, neutering and microchip implantation, and we work with local vets to ensure the animals are always healthy and well cared for.

We are committed to finding loving homes for our dogs through fostering and rehoming both in Cyprus and abroad, in the UK and Germany. We have a great team of dedicated volunteers who are always ready to help, and we are very grateful for the support we receive through fundraising and donations from the local community. It's all about giving these animals the best possible life. And your help on the ground is invaluable in achieving this!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteering with us offers a unique cultural exchange experience. You'll work alongside locals and international volunteers, learning about animal welfare practices in Cyprus while immersing yourself in our island's rich culture and traditions.

Outside of your work, you can explore Cyprus' stunning landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant local communities. Share meals, stories, and experiences with our team, creating lasting friendships and memories.

You will get to experience first hand some of the rescue dogs that we help and see some of the abuse, neglect and broken souls we help. If you are really luck you may even get to see some puppies being born and help the mother raise them.

We do pride our selves that we have a basic medical room on site at the shelter to deal with the normal day to day medications like de-worming, de-tick and flea treatments, washing and grooming.

This host offers a language exchange
At our sanctuary, English is the primary language spoken, ensuring smooth communication for all. Many of our volunteers are German, so German is also widely used. This creates an excellent opportunity for Workawayers to practice or improve their English or German skills while connecting with an international team!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A new residential container for our volunteers was built in May! It has two bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one single bedroom, shared bathroom with a shower, a kitchenette, 2 fridge freezers, washing machine and a outside seating area.

There are a few dogs that live with you in the container during your stay. You may connect with some of the dogs and allow them to sleep with you if you should be comfortable with that.
It is the volunteers job to maintain both the inside and outside areas. Also to feed, water and care for these dogs.
In some cases you may be asked to look after a sick dog to show them love, kindness and ensure they take their medications.
You may be asked to watch over the dogs while the owner goes out on shelter business for a few hours, this would require minimum of two people to stay on site and watch/control the dogs to ensure their safety.

Food is included and cooking facilities provided in the stay, but you are responsible for cooking for yourself, unless there are group plans in which you would like to participate - but in general, it's self-catering when it comes to cooking.
When you arrive please make it know your likes and dislikes with food. We have a regular fish and chip Friday from the local village of Anarita.

A car is available, but a valid driving license is essential as the animal shelter is located in the mountains. The car is mainly for shelter use - it can be used on off days or after work (dates and times need to be checked with Keith), but a 10e contribution to fuel is required per day of use. The nearest town / Beach is only a 10-minute drive away.
