Description
We are my German wife, two gardeners/cleaning and I (Swiss Italian). This is the team.
On top of that we have our two cats Lilly and Lucy, the two dogs Pino and Jessy. We live in a small resort with few bungalows on 7000 square meters of land.
Often (towards the end of the main season in May/April) the availability of water is at a critical level. So saving water is a must. Hence our project with hydroponic grown vegetables. This would help in saving water and avoid part of the constant transport of fresh vegetables by boat. Growing it locally possibly without chemical helps would also match the green label that Koh Mak is giving itself.Types of help and learning opportunities

Bringing change into a community is not always easy. So we need some success and show results. By doing so we will involve the local community that is more and more sensible with everything concerning environment. Goal would be to have enough vegetables to be able to sell to local businesses (Resorts/Hotels/Restaurants) but also teach hw to do it to whose willing to make the effort.
If you do not speak Thai (which would e a tremendous advantage but rather improbable) you should speak OK English.Help
We are looking for experts with hydroponic towers, aquaponics, hydroponics or aeroponics. We start from scratch and I would like to avoid buying finished systems which are rather expensive to get here in Thailand (mostly shipped from China). So your skills in DYI are important. But consider that our worker will assist with this tasks because he is the one that will be running the system once we are “up and running”.
The ideal candidate (him or her or couple) has experience with this matter and is willing to start from scratch and build up the system. Ideally you stay for longer time to really do it all.
If you have experience with also using fish in such a system, that would be a great plus. As I understand, less fertilizer is needed which help with an efficient resource utilization. Also one of the fish sorts here is a sort of catfish (called ปลาดุก Plā duk) and OK to live in warm water and appreciated by the local community as a very tasty food)
We have a surface of approximately 350 Square meters planned for this project. The candidate that will start the project will interact with me ahead of the trip to make sure required materials for the building of the system are ready.
And we appreciate all input you can add for solutions we did not think about, as long as it is environmentally helpful.Languages spoken

You have a 4 x 4 meter private room with your own shower/toilet. Area outside to sit.
We are a very small team. There is no "procedure" for food. It will be "as it comes":
* you cook yourself in the restaurant kitchen
* we cook for you
Since we are not a big company with 100 employees we can just handle food (and all other activities) on an ad-hoc basis as it happens
Of course you can use the pool in our small resortWhat else ...
We will pay you one round trip boat to mainland once per month, if you feel that you need to see more folks :-). The island has all you need to be entertained. It is a tourist location, so plenty of actvities are available for your time off. Consider that May to October is rain season. The island is pretty much deserted. Only few tourists and most restarants closed.

I reeally really enjoyed my time in Koh Mak and cannot reccomend it more! The work with the ponies was good, I felt really really welcome on the Island but also by Norbert and Silvia who took us Workawayers out to eat, introduced us to people on the Island etc.. It really is like a big family on Koh Mak, I would love to go back there in… read more
We appreciated a lot her skills and experience with horses. It's not every day that you meet somebody that actually learned the task of horse care. Absolutely easy going and didn't need lots of teaching on the help. She can naturally do it on her own.
If you need a horse expert take Samira.
