We use Montessori methodology when teaching the children, emphasizing independence and allowing them to learn through play. We also integrate practical activities, singing, dancing, and athletic activities into the curriculum to create more well rounded children. We hope that each volunteer who comes to stay with us will be able to contribute whatever skills they have. Previous volunteers have been able to teach swimming lessons, English, geography, math, etc., as well as assisting with monitoring the health of the children. We would like our volunteers to havea good handle on the English language. Those who are interested in working with the older students should be proficient in basic educational areas such as math, science and history. There are several special needs children attending the school, so any volunteers with knowledge specific to working with them would be warmly welcomed.

We are a married couple, living with our three children, three additional nieces and nephews and our childcare assistant. We eat a traditional African cuisine, mostly consisting of rice, beans, fruits, vegetables and ugali. Meals will be prepared for you, and you will also be provided with a room within our house. Each weekday you will work at the school which is adjacent to the house within our walled lot.

We hope that during your stay with us you will be able to learn about the local culture, as well as to educate us about your own. We are located approximately 15 minutes from a shopping complex, and during the weekend there are many different things to do in Dar Es Salaam as well and neighboring towns, such as going to the beach and sightseeing.
