    Description

My name is Kathleen and I live in beautiful Qualicum Beach, British Columbia with my husband and two daughters (ages 5 and 7 years). We live on a quiet street, in a two level house right in town. You can walk to the park, the beach, the grocery store, the library, the post office, the pharmacy, the community pool, and several small restaurants and shops. We don't smoke or partake in any drug use. My husband, Clayton, works as a millwright and firefighter and I work as a registered nurse.
Due to some previous experiences, we are currently only considering female workaways to help care for our daughters and the garden. Thank you very much for your interest and regardless of where you end up in Canada -- welcome and we hope you have a wonderful experience!

English is our primary language and we'd be more than happy to help you practice English. Other interesting things you might enjoy include the amazing scenery of Vancouver Island, a western or north american lifestyle and cuisine and access to many outdoor leisure activities including hiking, swimming, skiing, biking/mountain biking, waterfalls and beaches.

There are also some amazing outdoor locations/places to visit a bit further from our town but within driving distance:
-Little Qualicum River Falls and Provincial Park
-Strathcona Provincial Park and Mount Washington
    -Cathedral Grove
    -Tofino and Ucluelet
    -Cowichan Valley
    -Gulf Islands
    -Victoria BC

And for the outdoor enthusiasts there are opportunities a little further from our town such as Cape Scott Provincial Park, Nootka Island, and Little Huson Caves. These are only a handful of ideas/suggestions--there are many more not listed here.

  • Help

    Help

Our main need is for help with babysitting our daughters as both Clayton and I work and we are always in need of help with childcare. Other items we'd be more than happy to have help with are gardening and household projects as we bought an older house that always has many small projects on the go. We are especially interested in learning more about organic gardening, building more veggie/flower beds, building a greenhouse, and learning the best techniques for growing our own food as much as possible. We are located in climate/plant hardiness zone 8b.

Due to some previous experiences, at this time we are only looking for female workaways to help with our daughters and around the garden.

I am very interested in learning more French! I learned a tiny bit as a child and I would love to learn more. I speak fluent English.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Private bedroom with a queen bed, fresh linens, a bedside table, Wifi. The downstairs bathroom has a tub and shower, vanity/sink and toilet --it can be yours to use while you are here--but it currently has the laundry in it as well so we will need access to it occasionally to change the laundry.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are many lovely things to do in your time off--but the one big thing we don't have here is a big nightlife like you might experience in a city. There is one nice new craft brewery in town but no restaurants that are open late and no clubs or late night events. So, if you are really wanting more nightlife, Qualicum Beach might not be for you.
Otherwise, one of the nicest beaches on this side of Vancouver Island is a 10min drive away and there are opportunities for almost any outdoor sport here. There are weekly farmers markets year round and several arts options such as the local theatre/playhouse and several musical groups.

We do eat meat but I am trying to limit how often. Clayton really enjoys eating meat and I am happy to become a vegetarian. Right now we are meeting somewhere in the middle.
