Description
We are a couple of psychologists with a shared love for cooking, traveling, and exploring cultures. We both work as digital nomads, which allows us to combine our professional passions with the freedom to live and explore in different countries. Living in Sweden has been a dream of ours for a long time, and we are excited to finally make it a reality.
My name is Gerta, and I am a professional translator fluent in English, French, and Italian. Over the years, I have translated several books, published my own, and I am now preparing to publish my second. Alongside translation, I teach languages online and enjoy reading, writing, and discovering new perspectives. I am also passionate about cooking—at least according to my family, who are my most loyal food critics.
My husband brings his own unique talents to our family. With a background in gardening, repairing, and painting, he also has extensive experience in the culinary world. He once owned restaurants both in the USA and in Albania, specializing in American, Mexican, and Mediterranean cuisine. Later, he turned to psychology, pursuing research and practice with the same free-spirited dedication he brings to everything he does.
Together, we have taught children in Beijing, China for a year—an experience that deepened our love for teaching and cultural exchange. We are also the proud parents of a 23-year-old son and a 21-year-old daughter, both excellent students who are now planning to continue their studies in Umeå, Sweden. Our family wouldn’t be complete without our beloved cat, Grey.We are a couple of psychologists with a shared love for cooking, traveling, and exploring cultures. We live in Brände Ånäset, Västerbotten County, and a year ago we bought a house that we’ve started renovating. Now we’re looking for some extra hands to help us out!Types of help and learning opportunities

We love welcoming people into our family life. Sharing meals, cooking together, and relaxing after a day’s work are big parts of our routine. Depending on the season, we might go for forest walks, swim in the nearby lakes, or join local community events. We’d also love to introduce you to Swedish traditions, food, and everyday life in a small northern village.
We’re happy to share what we know about home repairs, painting, woodworking, and general DIY. You’ll also pick up some Swedish words and customs along the way. In return, we’re curious to learn from your experiences—whether it’s cooking a meal from your home country, showing us a craft you enjoy, or just sharing your perspective on life.
By hosting Workawayers, we hope to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures. Every guest brings something unique, and we look forward to learning new skills, new ways of thinking, and new stories from those who stay with us.Projects involving children

Help
The projects we’re focusing on include changing the façade, repairing and painting windows, scraping and painting surfaces, and other small-scale hands-on repair tasks around the house. For bigger or specialized jobs, we will also be hiring local tradespeople—but there are lots of opportunities for Workawayers to join in and learn alongside us on the parts that are fun and manageable to do together.
We believe these tasks provide a chance to learn from each other, share skills, and have fun along the way. We’ll often be doing tasks side by side, so there’s plenty of room for teamwork, laughter, and trying out new ideas. If you already have experience with tools, carpentry, or painting that’s great—but if not, don’t worry, we’ll figure things out together.
Beyond the hands-on projects, we’d love to exchange cultures, cook and eat together, and share stories. Living in Västerbotten means being surrounded by nature, forests, and lakes, so there are also plenty of opportunities to explore and enjoy the outdoors in your free time.
If you’re enthusiastic, willing to help, and curious to experience Swedish life while lending a hand with our tasks, we’d be so happy to host you!Languages
