We were apprehensive about our first workaway experience, but this feeling was left behind as soon as we met Rose and Tony. From the begging we felt like we were part of the family, we can’t describe the affection and kindness they treated us in their home. Their concern for making us feel good was in every detail, every job, every meal and every

We helped them with the garden, the bees, opening the pool for the season, painting and then hanging the cabinets and in the organization of the tent in the local fair where Tony sold honey and Rose sold her baskets. They are an amazing couple and they like to talk which allowed us to learn a lot. They even took us to know some local places and lent us the bikes in our free time. Our first experience couldn’t be better. We feel like we made great friends. The only bad part of the experience was not having enough space in the suitcase to bring a lifetime supply of the best honey.

Thank you Rose and Tony for giving me the chance to experience 1 week of workaway at your place! I must say that they are the best workaway hosts that I've come across as my 5th workaway! Rose, Tony and their daughter Janine were such nice and easy going people! As I did not rent a car and it was my last week in Canada, Rose and Tony were so kind
… read more to pick me up from Niagara falls to their place and also send me to Toronto Pearson airport from their place for my flight back to Singapore. They also make sure that I was feeling warm and cosy in the trailer that I am staying in by getting heater and an electric blanket for me. It's my first time staying in a trailer and I enjoyed it! I still have my showers and uses the toilet in the main house. Tony makes such delicious food (especially the broccoli) and I'm sure I have gained weight from all the food while I was there! Hahahaha! We have meals together most of the time except on occasions where Rose and Tony are out of the house but they would always make sure that ingredients are available for me to make my own meals. During my stay, Janine was around a couple of days when she did not have any offsite photography shooting. We had chats over her passion for photography and she shared photos and videos on her horse, Flo. It's a pity that we couldn't find a time for Janine to introduce me to Flo but I hope to see her when I revisit them one day.
With regards to work, it was varied depending on the things that need to be done, weather and also the skills required. During this 1 week, I learned a lot about beekeeping and helped Tony quite a bit on bee inspection as well as painting of new hives. Thankful that the bees have been very kind to me and I did not sustain any bee stings while helping out. On some other days, I was helping out the weeding and helping bob the neighbour on mulching where I got a chance to drive some old school but very well maintained tractors! Although farm work can be a little physical demanding but I really enjoyed it and I don't feel that it's very tough work. Rose and Tony always reminds me to not work too hard and keep myself hydrated while working under the sun! Sometimes after a day of hard work we will take a tortilla chips break together under the nice weather on the seating area outside the dinning area. I also had an opportunity to tag along for a saturday market where Tony sells his handmade honeys and Rose sells her handmade willow items. I was so glad to be of a help during the market event and took the apple farm wagon for the first time! It was very nice of Rose and Tony to loan me their bike to cycle around and explore the vicinity. On off days, Tony and Rose invited me along to hike the Bruce trail to catch a view of the Balls fall and they also drove me to the maple tree conservatory to see the oldest maple tree known in Canada!
Also, not to forget their 2 lovely cats, Finny and Eddie, who are so so adorable. 18 year old Finny absolutely loves head and ear scratches and it's pretty funny to watch how vocal eddie is where he meows for human food and behaves like a dog🤣
It was a pity that I couldn't extend my workaway period as I already have my return flight booked and I am reaching my 3 months limit of missing the food and weather back in Singapore.
Although it was a short 1 week stay but I've learnt so much, tried so many things and most importantly built friendships and great memories with Rose, Tony and Janine. Hopefully to be able to be back again for another workaway to have a chance to learn willow basket making from Rose!! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you guys ever come visit Singapore!!

Jazel stayed with us for about 2 weeks at the end of February and early March 2023. She is a great person and a real pleasure to have around. Jazel also helped us with our Apiary tasks. We have about 20 hives that we use for honey production and for bees for new beekeepers each year. Jazel painted new hive boxes that will be used for Nuc (new hive) production. She also waxed all of our new plastic frames with bees wax for our hive boxes to help insure the bees draw out the frames with bees wax more quickly during the season. Jazel also helped with the preparation and jarring of some of our infused creamed honey.
Jazel spoke fluent English. We enjoyed discussions with her and learned a lot about culture in Singapore. We wish you the best in your travels here in Canada and elsewhere in the world and look forward to meet again some time, perhaps in Singapore! Thank you for all your efforts.

Rosemary, Tony and Janine is probably the most easygoing and fun-loving family I’ve met! They treated me like family and included me in their chats, outings, meals and TV time. On off days, they took me to Niagara Falls, Niagara Glen Nature Reserve, Sugar Bush Trek (to see history of maple syrup in a very nice winter maple forest), tobogganing for a true Canadian activity, and even Costco shopping for a true Canadian experience (I miss the hotdog!). All of them were such great cooks that I probably gained weight from their sumptuous meals! Rose and Tony brought me groceries shopping and made sure I got to and left their place safely. When my next workaway host had covid last minute, they gave me suggestions and mental support till I found a new place (I could not go back to theirs because I had a flight).
I will never forget the generiosity, kindness and memories made with this family. Came as workawayer, left as friend. So thankful our dates for end Feb to early Mar aligned so miraculously. Thank you isnt enough but THANK YOU Rose, Tony and Janine! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Review on Work Away – Erik and Pia
Erik and Pia stayed with us for about 5 weeks this year in the spring of 2022. They are a lovely couple, fun to be with. We found them to be very mature for their age, very reliable and hard working. Pia and Erik helped immensely with our Apiary to clean beekeeping equipment, paint new hive boxes and generally

The willow is used to make baskets and willow products. Pia and Erik helped with some of the annual maintenance tasks.
We accomplished a lot of spring cleanup this year through efforts by Erik and Pia. They did a great job of cleaning our perennial gardens and laying down mulch, trimming bushes, and planting in our garden. They also did a great job on painting around the house.
It was great that Pia and Erik could also help us with house sitting while my husband and I did some short trips away. Pia and Erik looked after the house and our pets and did a great job.
Both Pia and Erik spoke almost fluent English. We enjoyed discussions with them and learned a lot about German culture. We wish you both the best in your travels and look forward to meet again some time, perhaps in Germany! Thank you for all your efforts. Sorry we did not post this sooner!

It was our first workaway experience with Rose and Tony and this one is hard to top right away. I did my first ever workaway at Rosemary and Tony's beautiful hobby farm, and I loved every minute of it! There was a perfect balance of work and exploring the local area too. Rosemary and Tony went out of their way to ensure I got the most from my time in their beautiful part of the world. This included (several) winery trips, yoga classes, hikes on the Bruce Trail, visits to the the Falls and exploring the Niagara escarpment. We also fitted in lots of shopping mall visits and Tony very kindly (and bravely) let me have a go at driving for my first time in Canada!
Rosemary is an amazing cook, and we enjoyed many an amazing meal followed by an evening of Netflix binge watching and tea drinking!
