We are building a strawbale insulated eco-home and workshop that will be used to produce natural birch-based cosmetics. Right now we use the home and work shop on a part-time basis but we hope to be able to move permanently within the next two years.
DIY and building projects
You will be able to experience life in a very quiet area of rural Ontario, and enjoy all of the attractions of the Kawartha Lakes region. A large provincial park (Queen Elizabeth Wildlands) is within walking distance. You could also learn about natural cosmetics production and some of the health benefits of naturally occurring substances.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
The workshop and the home still need lots of finish carpentry work.
We are also building trails through the property in order to have better access to the birch resources and a lake at the back of the lot. Building the trails involves some earth moving as well as lots of clearing of deadwood.
In the workshop, we may need help with soap or cosmetics production.
We would like to set up a small garden as well, so anyone with gardening or landscaping skills is very welcome.
You would be housed in a guest bedroom of our home, with a shared bathroom.
We can offer an ATV for you to get around the area, there are lots of trails available. A canoe may also be available to enjoy the local lake or larger nearby lakes and camping areas in a provincial park.
