    Description

I live in a big house with a garden close to the centre of a middle-sized Westphalian town. I love my garden and grow a lot of insect-friendly plants, some veg and also keep two chickens. My garden is run completely organic, with a focus on ornamental planting but also providing some of the food we use, depending on the season.
I am trying to live an eco-friendly lifestyle, cooking predominantly vegetarian and vegan meals, cycling and using public transport to get to places, growing some food.
Although close to the town centre, it is a peaceful, quiet place.
Now that my children have moved out and only visit occasionally, it is a big place, so I am trying to reduce my ecological footprint by sharing it with others.
A further step towards sustainability is that I will have a geothermal heat pump installed in the upcoming months. Although most of the work is done by a professional team, some help around the house and garden is required, for example moving and removing plants and earth and looking after the garden. You can also learn about how a geothermal heat pump is installed, by watching the team.
It has been a dream for quite some time to create a wildlife pond to further my contribution to providing a living space for wild animals. I should be very happy if this should materialise with the help of workawayers,
I can offer you a room of your own, bathroom might need to be shared with my grown-up children who visit every now and then.
As I work full-time (not very far from home, though), it would be necessary that you are able to work independently. It would also be favourable if you could take some of your days off during the week as I do quite a lot of work on Saturdays.
When I am home you can count on home-cooked, mostly vegetarian meals (or full use of the kitchen if you prefer). I am also quite patient and willing to support you if you would like to learn or improve your knowledge of the German language.
The area where I live has charming towns with half-timbered houses, long-distance hiking paths and historical cities like Münster, Paderborn and Osnabrück not too far away. Moreover we have a local station which enables you to get to a lot of places easily, including Berlin being just 3,5 hours away if you take the train.

  • Help

    Help

I need help in the garden moving and removing plants, watering and maintenance help, feeding chickens, mowing the lawn, painting a fence. If you are able do some masonry, a part of a wall needs to be reconstructed.
If you have a driving licence you may also drive some rubbish to the tip.
In the house, shelves and their contents need to be moved, some walls need painting and the basement has to be cleared up.
Some of your work needs to be done independently, as I work full-time and normally come home in the early afternoon. I have a good knowledge of gardening and renovating, so there is quite a bit I can share with you.
