    Description

Busy in January + February, please apply only for April :)

It's Bubba (10year old Labrador), Heike, Gerd and grandpa Klaus - a German family seeking for some support and with motivation to have an international exchange - an opportunity for both parties to meet, learn, help and benefit.
We live in Finsterwalde (South Brandenburg), directly in the middle of Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden. It's a small town but there's much to do.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You will live in the house and can experience German culture.
Finsterwalde is a small town (17.000 inhabitants) and as written above, Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig are all just approx. 100km away and there is a very good train connection. Also the Spreewald is just in the nearby villages, its beautiful nature with rivers and Sorbs minority. You can easily explore nearby and see more culture!
My mom enjoys activities with her friends like sauna, dancing, doing yoga, winter walks, bike trips etc. Feel free to join.
We don't know when my dad will be able to leave the hospital. Hopefully you can meet him, he's a bicycle traveller with lots of stories to tell and joking all the time.
Also friends and neighbors are happy to show you around and spend time together.
Finsterwalde is a small town, but has nice things to do - there is a cute bar with likeminded people you could connect with, there a concerts every once in a while, a swimming pool (25m) with sauna, castles, nature (forests, lakes) and many sports activities. There's a huge disc golf park in the forest.
It's winter time - weather in Germany is chilly, the sky will be grey probably. Let's bring some warmth and light together.

  • Help

    Help

My dad just had an accident where a heavy machine drove over his foot. Dealing with more tasks than usual, my mom has just nearly no free time anymore. That's why we ask for support from a friendly workawayer.
We'd appreciate help with walking the dog once a day - there is a beautiful forest just around the corner where you can enjoy a walk with Bubba.
We ask for some small household tasks and if you enjoy cooking, feel free to prepare a basic meal once a day for yourself and Opa Klaus.
Grandpa Klaus is one of the sweetest persons on earth - he is easygoing and loves to play card and board games or dices. He would be more than happy to have a friend who enjoys games as much as he does. It could be a beautiful opportunity to learn German this way. Opa is very patient :)
If you feel like other tasks, we have a garden and you can add something you enjoy doing.

We think, that living in the family would be a great opportunity for you to learn/improve German. As we said, we are easygoing and patient human beings :) It would be better if you know some German already

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You'll live in the house, you can decide if you'd like to stay in Vicky's former room down at the 1st floor (shared areas just infront: bathroom, kitchen and living room) or if you don't mind walking the steps, there is another room at the attic.
It's gonna be your private place. There is WIFI.
Talking about food, it depends on my mom's working schedule. If she works in the morning, you need to prepare your own breakfast (up to you) and cook a warm lunch for yourself and Opa Klaus. Dinner will be shared then with my mom, it's usually a typical German little meal (bread, salat or similar).
If my mom works in the afternoon, you can have breakfast together, she'll probably make the lunch and dinner is then up to you.
At evening time, you are invited to join my mom for some activities (like step aerobic, sauna, yoga etc). Just keep in mind, that privacy is also needed if she had a long day and just wants to read a book and do nothing. We're sure you understand - everybody needs some stillness for themselves.

    3 meals a day, everyday weekday+weekend
